I want to put a bike rack on my new Rogue. I will need to install a hitch first. Has anyone installed an after market hitch? What kind of hitch should I get? Any ideas on a good hitch bike rack? Any pics?

Yes I just had this done last week, and you must be careful as the bummer on the 2014 requires an extended receiver to fit a typical hitch mounted rack. I have an older Sportsworks who have since sold the design to Tule and now manufactured by them. There is a good video explaining why and how to measure at etrailer.com. for the receiver length and tongue on the rack. I had mine custom made and installed by a local shop for $250.00 cash. It turned out very clean without having to cut any of the plastic at the bottom of the bumper, which some shops wanted to do. It also tucks up nice and high and in not a low point. There might be an issue with very steep driveways with the receiver hitting, due to the length of the extension, but it is all too new for me to see at this time if that is an issue. I will post a picture tomorrow.

I had the factory hitch installed for this very purpose. Factory hitch could be installed as DYI project, no drilling required, all needed parts are included. No extension was required for my 7y old Yakama rack.

I just installed a Draw-Tite #75902 from etrailer.com.
They have 4-5 hitches available for the 2014 Rogue. Website said that this hitch was the longest.
The hitch pin hole is 5" behind the end of the bumper.
When buying an accessory to attach you should measure tongue length. If it is less than 5 1/2" from hitch pin hole to where the vertical part starts, you may need an extension.
Call etrailer for assistance in picking out accessories.

It would have taken about an hour in install the hitch except I had trouble removing the factory tow hook. I used a 6" ratchet, a 12" or larger would give you better leverage.
I didn't raise the rear end, I was able to easily lie under the bumper and install.
1. Remove 2 plastic shields attached to bumper by using screwdriver to pop off clips
2. Remove tow hook and throw it away
3. Install hitch with 5 bolts
4. Re-install plastic shields, The driver side needs to be notched, you'll be cutting a 5x5 square out. Use jigsaw, hacksaw, tinsnips.

I will be buying a cargo carrier such as hitch-haul.

Hi all,

Looking for a recommendation on a hitch. I will only be using it occasionally for a cargo tray (<500lbs) or for carrying bikes. Any recommendations and why?

I am currently looking at this, any thoughts? http://www.ebay.com/itm/231749828744?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

Also, I was looking underneath to check the mounting, and found this bracket. It is mounted to the frame, but nothing is mounted to it. What is it there for? Thanks in advance!

I went with the OEM hitch. I had the dealer install before I picked up the car but no drilling is required, just bolt it on, could do it yourself. I've had zero issues with it and use it for transporting bikes weekly in the warmer months.

This should be removed before installing the Hitch. I bought this one and installed it myself:

It's perfect and compatible with 2014/15/16 Nissan Rogue even tough Amazon shows that it does not fit.

NISSAN OEM Rogue Class 1 Tow Hitch w/ Thule Helium Aero 4 Bike Rack.

the OEM's Hitches are rated @ 100LB max tongue weight. The Thule rack weighs about 18LBS. Works for my usage, carrying 2 bikes at the most. The locking knob on the Thule rack BARELY cleared the bumper. Excellent bike rack though, kinda sleek too.

I got a bike rack for my cars so I can take my bike to different places, however, I am not sure how to make the rack to hold my mountain bike, as multiple connections come off when going 5 mph or while loading the bike on it. Also, I am going to uni in summer of 2018, as I might be taking the Rogue to college and will also take my bike with me. So what is the best product and solution for my situation?

The fin like device on the bottom is for tying down your vehicle when it is shipped on a ship. When putting your hitch on you can remove the fin and throw it away. It useless. As for a tow hitch used eTrailer’s website. I did when I had my 15 Rogue SL AWD. I put a 2 inch receiver on my Rogue and got one of Thule’s bike racks that can hold 4 bikes and has an adapter on it for 2 diffrent size receivers. Didn’t have any problems installing the hitch and did it by myself. Just make sure you put the correct torque on the bolts. I have a wire harness for the reciever that I never installed on my Rogue if you need one. I got it from eTrailer but never used or installed it. Its the 4 pole flat connector. I am about to do the same thing on my 2017.5 Murano this weekend.

The thing is that I have the allen sports 2 bike rack (model MT2) and not sure how to install it onto the Rogue properly.

According to the Allen Sports website, that model should be compatible with the Rogue. If you don't have the manual, you can also download that on their website. Maybe try their customer service to help with installing it if you're having problems.

I usually use the live chat feature on the manufactures site, regardless of the manufacturer. But, Allen sports doesn't have that feature, as I prefer to have some type of readable text from the manufacturer customer service, as that gives me a better idea. However, the main thing is, I securely hook the top two hooks to the top end of the tailgate, but have no idea where to place the bottom hook to other than the plastic lower bumper. And, I tried with two mountain bikes with this rack, and it doesn't stay on either the 99 Accord and the 16 Rogue.

I have the previous version of this one. It fits my 2 inch reciever just fine.

It also has an adapter for the smaller receiver. Best part is no straps to attach to the car.

Why not put the bottom hook on the bottom edge of the tailgate? Otherwise, you might be better off getting a hitch installed and using that type of carrier.

I am actually looking into a trailer hitch, as I tried so many places with that bottom hook, and it doesn't fit anywhere other than the plastic cover, that is underneath the car. However, I am also looking at a sturdy bike rack hitch that can hold a mountain bike.
