So I just finished washing and waxing my car.. and then decided to stop by the Florida mall on the way back to check on the line for the iphone... and on the way back to my spot (farthest corner of the lot because I'm paranoid about my car) this is what I see....

Probably getting redundant for you guys since you've seen so many by now.. but this just happened and I need some serious venting. Any estimates on the repair cost for this monstrosity? I'm calling my insurance momentarily...

That is such bull$h!7. How can so many people have absolutely no personal accountability?

Anyway I image the repairs to be horrendous, but that's what insurance is for. Probably an entire new rear bumper and fender.

That would really piss me off .... I feel for you dude....

And what can the police do ... in our state it's still a crime, if found they would be subject to arrest & it's a mandatory court appearance.

But ... not as much fun and finding them yourself & turning their car into a golf ball replica with a baseball bat. (Disclaimer ... I am not recommending that you do this yourself)

If somebody did that to my car I would track them down and let my 9 foot boa strangle them to death.

I hate bungholes like that.

Who isn't friends with a local policeman? You have to have at least one of them on your side

I also say it can be fixed... Bumper tabs can still be fixed... In the hands of the right shop... $1000 may do it.

...Another thought ... check with the security at the place you were parked ... almost every mall has security cameras; inside & out ... if should be easy for you to narrow down the time this happened. Maybe you'll find the suspect on their tape.

Just a thought.

i did. my conversation with the mall security:me: can you check your cameras to see if you caught anything on tape?security: i don't know if your car was parked in an area where there were cameras.me: i parked on the NE side of Macy's dept. store. are there cameras there?security: i can't disclose that information to you due to security risks.me: so are there cameras in that area or not?security: there probably is. but there might be trees blocking your car and therefore the cameras may not have caught anything.me: i know where i parked. there were no trees. it was out in the open.security: but again, there may be a chance that the cameras didn't catch anything.me: well can you at least go check the tapes?security: but again, there may be a chance that the cameras didn't catch anything.me: ARE YOU GOING TO CHECK THE TAPES?!security: no.me: F* U then useless &*$%$*(%#%#*(@@#@#*%*#

thats pretty much what they did for me.

If you want videotape, you need a warrant or a subpoena from a judge.

dont know the rules in fla but in ny...leaving the scene of an accidnet involving more than 1000 property damage is a crime "leaving the scene of an accident" and should be filed with the police.if filed...the police may then investigated with security at the mall...if there is a video tape of the area...that tape should be pulled.ur damage comes down to one thing....the paint work...how well can your guy do it...black sucks to match, and im gonna guess ....1500-1700..for it to be done properly..now you have a choice judging if they do not get the loser how hit you.

i am speaking from the ny side of things with ins policies...

what is your deductable? the amount you need to pay as part of a damage claim?

you can use your deducatble here...which means...if you have 1000 deduct,,,you pay 1000 and your ins pays the rest...now...unfortunatly...with ins companies..they hate to pay anything..and will in some way get it back..in the form of policy increases.....you may find your insurace go up slightly on you next renewal...it sucks but its a fact of life.

or

depending on how far you from the deductable and the actual cost...pay it ur self and dont file claim...if the damage is closer to the deductable amount..what u have to pay any way....id pay it my self and leave my ins out of it...it leaves my record clear...and gives the ins company less reason to raise u or even drop you if you god forbid need them for something bigger...they dont care about it not being a big accident or if it wasnt your fault..they see money coming out of their pockets...

Thanks for all the advice guys.. the damage came out to a $1350 estimate and my insurer said that since the damage was not my fault (being that I was parked and not in the car during the incident) my premium will be unaffected.

Looks like they will be replacing the bumper and just working on the quarter panel, since ours goes all the way to the front quarter of the car (can't really call it a quarter panel now that I think about it). Also, my collision deductible is $200, so all in all a hellova lot less than I originally thought I was going to have to pay for this incident. Just worrying about the final bodywork and paint matching up for now, so theres nothing more I can do other than drive around this '09 Cadillac CTS for the next five days

ya my deductible is $1000. i dont think, now that the bumper has popped back out, they the insurance will quote me for much damage. there for i opted to leave it alone for now. and maybe in the future fix it myself without filing a claim. not worth it at this point imo.

I have become completely paranoid about parking my Coupe anywhere and posts like this just make things worse. I already park way off in the boonies of the parking lot in every store I go to, but I have nightmares of only finding one spot in a lot close to the door and next to a handicapped spot. How long does it take to get over the fear that every other driver on the road or in a lot is out to "get" my Coupe? Right after the first dent? This is a huge downside to owning a new car that nobody ever tells you about. If it were me, I'd pass on the I-Phone and apply that money to my insurance policy to get the lowest deductable possible, if I hadn't already done that!
