Stupid internal wastegate. My actuator failed yet again. I haven't had this one on there for all that long and it just decides not to open. Here is the tale of me attempting to show a soccermommobile who is boss. :D

I just got finished doing a bunch of stuff to my ride, including a full rebuild with .020 over, OEM type pistons. I'm not looking for huge numbers nor do I have the $ for anything too fancy so this was the best option for me. I did go ahead and get a nice 6 puck ceramic clutch so that I can do some nice 2nd gear tire smoking. I've got about 300 miles on it now. The clutch has finally started to feel like it's nicely seated and the motor needs a little beating every now and then to get it nice and broken in, sooo... I couldn't resist flooring it when some douchbag in a minivan is staging me at a stoplight. The other light turns yellow, he's inching foward and he goes right when our light turns green. He gets about 1/2 way through the intersection before I even get moving and I just floored it. When I go into second I feel the turbo wind up and hold like normal at about 9psi and about a 1/2 second later I feel the car lunge foward and the turbo scream. I jumped about 2 or 3 car lengths ahead of the minivan before I can even let off the gas. :D What a freaking rush! I remember thinking "Holy ****!" and looking over to the boost gauge and seeing it moving well beyond 15 psi and it was still building fast. Thankfully, I don't think I got much over 5 grand and everything seems to be allright so hopefully I didn't screw anything up. I probably maxed out the flow meter but I've got pretty big injectors and I've had it set to run a little rich until I can get it dynoed again. I've also got the timing backed off several degrees. I'll probably check the compression just to see how everything is sealing up with the new rings and all.

Hopefully, I'll be picking up another actuator this week. Anybody got any idea what makes these things crap out like that? I know I should have gone with an external but my budget didn't allow for it when I was building this setup. Besides, setting up an external would have been too much of a pain in the ***. But I digress.. Anything else I should check? Why do these things die on me? Why do we park on driveways and drive.....

Moral of the story: Do it RIGHT the first time. Saves money in the END, as you have found out.

I think he ment that you shoulda gone with the external wastegate in the first place instead of jsut getting the internal one. Because it was easier or cost a little less.

Time heals all wounds.

ok i'll come back to this since people dont get broken syntax sarcasm:

Internal wastegates are perfectly fine

some **** went wrong, you act like he blew up his motor because he tried to run 3 bar on stock fuel and 25* timing.

Congrats on the build bro, have fun with it ;)
