i just picked up my sr20det last night it was a scary ride home i thought the thing was going to fall off the back of my friends pick up. Anyways now that its home whats the best way to find out some history about it?

I have a redtop valve cover but my tag on the says this...

Nissan Motor Co., LTD.Japantype E-rps13Chassis no. rps13jftgmcolour, trim Kg4 Gengine sr20(det) 1998cctransaxle fs5w71c rc40plant W

The person i got it off of says he sees new gaskets in the front of the engine and that it possibly was rebuilt. also on the top of the engine it are those markings showing howmany KMS on on it ?

Anyways i want to confirm what year the engine is ... now is there anyway i can tell on the block or head? I remeber a topic being posted before about something similar to this but i can;t find it.

Also in general what should i look for on my engine for tell tale signs of the past? so far no cracked injectors, crank angel sensor cover is not cracked, i got the 02 harness, new water pump gasket, almost looks like a new head cover gasket.

WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR ??? because i am confused between wheather its a red top or black top.

Does it have little cooling fins between the two front cam seals on the head?

Your car rolled out of the factory in June 1992. This means it was a redtop.

And here was the other thread on how to tell the approximate time the engine was made...zerothread?id=88720
