Ok, my car will start shaking at around 80-90mph on the highway. The weird thing is it is mostly the drivers side that shakes and it will shake for about 15 seconds and then stop before starting to shake again. This keeps on repeating. Also, I can accellerate to about 100mph and it doesnt shake that much while accellerating, but will start to shake really bad once i let of the gas; and continues to do so until about 80 again. Any suggestions?

Could be a host of things, including

1) Worn tension rods2) Worn suspension 3) Worn shocks/springs4) Something left loose creating resistance

List goes on....

Ok, so tires isnt very descriptive. Not enough air pressure? Too old and time to replace? Alignment is off?

Rotate the tires and see if the shaking changes location (driver to passenger) or increases/decreases.

Does it shake only when under power at that speed or when coasting? (for as long as it maintains the 80-90 speed)

Does it feel like the shaking is more in the pedals? seat? shifter? floor?

Also check tire pressure! This can cause un-easy driving at higher speeds.

98 240sx se had the same problem. Turned out the wheels were bent.

It still vibrates a little, but not anything close to what it was. Im going to try tie-rod ends next. My thinking is that it rode on bent wheels for so long, it wore the tie-rod end faster.

the steering wheel shakes the most and i notice when im driving at night that my headlight is vibrating up and down really fast because of the reflection on road signs.

my car shakes INTERMITANTLY too. Goes for 3 seconds with a VERY slight jitter, then smooths out for another 3 seconds, then jitters again. All on the highway.

Ideas?

MMurphy, get your tires balanced and have them make sure your wheels arent bent, if that doesnt work, check your front suspension bushings...

mine does this too sometimes around 80, and it is because of the tires/wheels not being balanced. it doesnt shake when i have my new wheels/tires on. and i also feel it in the steering wheel alot

My tires are shot that way too. One has a bit of a wiggle is what the tire tech at Exar-Kun's shop told me. I had already replaced the front bushings and had a 4-wheel alignment done. But when I rotated my tires/wheels, i knew it was them b/c of the change in the vibration.

what about the conditions of your tires? how's the wear pattern on them? If the tires are bumpy, could be your shocks are blown and are causing the vibrations (my sisters altima has this problem right now) in the cabin. Check out your tires for more information as to what it could be.
