I just got done take that fugly door carpet off, and I'm VERY pleased with the results. I would definitly recommed doing this. Takes about 45 min, a philips and flat head screwdriver, and some patience.

hey that looks better. so you just take the carpet out and it looks like that, or you had to replace the carpet with something else?

It's easy as pie to do. Materials needed- Philips head screwdriver and a flat head screwdriver.

All you have to do to prep the door is take off the passenger hand hold on the passenger side, the little wells on each door, they have a philips head screw in the bottom, covered by a pry- outable plastic thingy, and remove the plastic from around the door opener and lock. The well and lock cover come out with a little "persuasion," to get the lock molding out, make sure the door lock is in the unlocked position, and the door handle is pulled open. Then use the flat head screw driver and pry it out. For the well, take out the philips head screw in the bottom and pry it out with the flat head also.

Once the door is prepped, take the flat head screw driver and stick it in the edges where the carpet meets the plastic part of the door, and pull the edge of the carpet out of the crack. stick the screwdriver sideways into the crack and pull it outwards to quickly remove the rest of the edging.

Once all the edges are out, it's time to get that carpet off. Start from the outside of the door, because this is the easiest. Just yank at it, if a little but tears off, you can either come back for it later, or pull it up then and match it back up with the rest of the carpet, which is easier. Don't worry if some of the vynil underneath comes up with it, not tears, just comes unstuck. It should stick back down when you press it back against the door.

When you've got the carpet off, you should clean the door. I just took a swipe at it with some Armor All and it cleaned up nicely. Then, just re-attach the parts you took off, and viola, no more fugly door carpet!

If you have any questions about this, or my instructions are too vague (I'm sorry, this is the first "how to" I've written), just hit me up on AIM. My screenname is Doug The Mighty. You shouldn't need to much help though, it's not a very difficult project. Takes about 30-45 minutes, and for you worriers, there's almost no chance of the vynil underneath ripping.

NONONONONONONONO!!!!!!!

Don't mess with the glove box!!!!!!

It's completely different stuff. drnovascotia put some vynil over the glove box, and it looks sweet, I think I might give it a whirl. I can post pics of that when I'm done. Don't even try to do the glove box, it's way different.

drnovascotia did all this first, I'm just the messenger. You can see pics of his stuff at http://home.kc.rr.com/jakes/240sx.htm

Look at drnovascotia's pics... the color scheme is black, but still...;)

Just did it! Easy as pie. There were some holes where the vinyl came off with the carpet but it was an easy fix with liquid leather. :)

finished mine about 5 days or so ago. I first tried to cover in black vinyl but after about 15 minutes is said forget that!! I used a DAP patch stick to fill those little holes and then sanded with some 400 grit to give it an even texture. I then sanded with some ultra flat black Krylon. Painted the door handle and door pull a gloss black to match my dash. I am very pleased with the result. Very easy to do. Great improvement over the ****ty carpet.
