Drew, I just wrote this up this afternoon intending to post it in our Classified section. I don't know if it interests you or not, but it's a 4.08 and I know the noise is from adjustment, not wear.

"FS - 4.08 differential (NON-TCS or ACTIVE), complete bolt-in assembly for 1990-1996 Q45. This unit was built in Phoenix for another NICO member 2-3 years ago. It has a slight whine from the day it was built and it has never gotten worse. My mechanic suspects tightening the spider gears a bit would eliminate it. It was in the car I bought through NICO, but I re-installed the original diff because I drive 100 highway miles a day to and from work.

This is a true bolt-in swap – it took us maybe an hour to do. All flanges are correct for the ’90-’96 Q45."

Just got out from under the car. Guess I had to see it for myself but you're right. The problem is that the diff is a bit shorter than the non-tcs unit. There is about half an inch, maybe a little less of space between the input shaft and drive shaft flanges. Too much to overcome. Trying to sandwich that space with anything would probably result in major vibrations. Other than that, the axles seems as if they would bolt up fine to the output flanges.

Not impossible to make fit though... the solution would be to pair it with the driveshaft from an active/tcs as it would be slightly longer. This is what you were trying to tell me a long time ago when we were discussing driveshafts but I think you didn't have the specifics.

Well, here it is for all to see...

TCS = shorter diff and longer driveshaft in comparison to a non-TCS Q45. TCS also has 2 sensors on the output shaft versus a single sensor on the input shaft for non TCS.

Can't say I'm not thinking about going to get the driveshaft but I'm a bit reluctant as it would only be temporary, and who knows what else I'll find wrong.

Glenn,

Thanks man, but I've put up with the whine for so long that I couldn't stand to hear it again even on a lower level. My next diff must be quiet.

Okay fellas, this active diff is going up for sale or back for a refund if no one claims it. It's silky smooth when turned and little or no play when twisting the output shafts. It's also full of fresh, high-quality Lucas gear oil.

Sijoko, I wouldn't wanna keep this around for months. Send me an email if interested in a quicker sale... I'll be posting it on the board soon.

Drew

Please call me on my cell this morning 416 570-4957.

If we can land on a reasonable price, I can pay you today from my PayPal account.

I know where there is a non TCS diff for about $150.

Well I picked up a 96' non-TCS diff this morning. Feels good... guess we'll see how it goes.

Ahh......the joys of buying parts from a salvage yard. Hopefully, this one works out for you.
