They say KAs don't rev very well. I was just wondering what the highest RPMs you guys have reached. What is stock rev limit for a KA24DE and KA24E? If you have higher than stock are using cams? or possibly a tuned computer? Can you push them to 8000 rpm? I would like to build a turbo KA when I get back to the states and I really want a free reving motor like my RB25 that I have now in my car.

jwt rasies the redline when they retune the ecu. choosing the right cams will insure that you make power up top.

if you're turbocharging your engine, there's really no need to worry about raising your redline. if you choose the right compressor, you'll make plenty of power long before you reach it.

The KA's harmonics are terrible somewhere beyond 7000 RPM. IT can literally destroy itself up there. To rev to 8000 RPM, you need to do some significant and expensive work.

honestly....

and i'm not trying to rag on you....

but the ka isn't going to f'in hang with hondas or SR's when it comes to redline. just don't worry about it.

the beauty of our engines comes in around 3000 rpm, and lasts until roughly 5500 or 6k, maybe a little higher with some cams. It's just as much fun and is actually more drivable than some crazy making-boost-at-5k-and-redlining-at-9500 engine.

In my opinion, of course.

lets say for the sake of argument that you could run 8000 rpms your peak hp/tq will be still under 6,000, so there is really no need to rev that high

That's when you would make changes to the cam and/or heads to flow better at those RPM's and make use of the higher RPM's.

and you've got an unstreetable 400hp KA that has to idle at 1100 rpm. (but fortunately would sound gorgeous :))

for a full race job, yeah, you could do it. i'd probably investigate destroking to 2.2, stronger valve springs with titanium retainers, 272 cams, custom short runner intake...

it'd be great fun. but not worth the investment imho
