Here is some interesting reading, especially for the ones of us who have purchased a vehicle with a high efficiency and latest technology enviro engine.

I'm surprised Exxon-Mobil is not on that list.

with how much my dad raves on Amoco/BP I'm surprised that they are not on the list... But I did notice in the Camel that my mpg jumped up by 2 when I switched from Amoco/BP to Shell. Maybe this was why...

If not already done, you can count on all the major brands getting on board real fast and soon.

I remember reading somewhere on the net that nissan and others will be adhering to these standards and true Synthetic motor oils also.

This topic is somewhat funny to me because historically, several of these "top tier" brands have caused moderate to major problems with my cars.

I never frequent Texaco after using their gas blew a full set of injectors in one of my Legacies, I don't go to Shell because many years ago their fuels used to eat fuel lines and carburetor seals (dunno if that's still true, but I don't want to test it with my V). I don't go to Conoco because I get the worst fuel efficiency from their gas, usually 3-4 mpg BELOW normal. I don't go to Chevron because they charge 15-20% more than anyone else, they're even MORE expensive than Shell if you can believe it.

76 is the ONLY "Top Tier" brand I ever use. I use them when I go on long road trips, because they tend to give me 2-3 mpg better results, and I can basically guarantee that anywhere I go I can find a 76 to fill up at.

I use Arco, which is BP. Many people in the West don't go there because BEFORE the merger with BP, their gasoline had high levels of sulfur. Ironically, Arco now has some of the lowest sulfur fuels, they were the first to meet new low-sulfur premium fuel standards YEARS before anyone else (think in the 90's, not the 00's like everyone else), and have lower sulfur than even some of the "top tier" brands listed. Arco is also by far the least expensive gasoline in the area, it's as cheap as Costco's member-price on gas.

This is all BS. In most markets, gas comes from the same refinery, sold at the various stations. Sam's Club = Shell=Chevron=BP=Sinclair=Whatever.

The difference is the addative that the station puts in the storage tanks.

In my Xterra, I get the best mileage from the gas station that doesn't add anything...Sam's Club.

In the Versa, I see no advantage in one brand over the other.

In larger markets with more than one "local" refinery, there may be a difference, but in most markets, one refiner supplies all stations.

I have use Chevron 91 my whole life...unless im driving someone elses car then ill just go to Arco cause its cheap. If for some reason I really need gas really bad ill go to 76 if there isnt a Chevron, but I'll only put like 2 gallons in just to get me to a Chevron.

I agree with XterraVersa. The fact is that gasoline is commingled at distribution stations before they are trucked to gas stations. The only difference is the additives each stations put in after receiving the shipment and the marketing.

The web site makes a lot of claims without facts to back them up. What makes those gas brands better than others? There is a page about the test methodologies, but where are the results? Why is there a lack of information about who published the web site? What is Jim Denny of National Products Group of Tulsa, OK's agenda for creating the web site?

I have never heard of gas stations adding additives in their inground tanks, as a matter of fact in this country anyways I believe it is illegal to add or modify gas and such products once it leaves the refinery. Who takes the responsability should anything happen, do you go after the retailer or service station that sold you the product, what if they just declare bankruptcy or dissapear off the face of the eearth, who does the government or authorities go after in such a case. An air plane fuel reseller modifies the product with additives after he receives his product from the refinery, planes fall out of the sky heaven forbid, who takes total and complete responsability.

I seriously doubt that adding such additives or any chemical occurs in the USA after it leaves the refinery, especially after 911 as this would leave you wide open to all kinds of possibilities which Ossama and friends who would readily use this as a means and as a weapon.

But I could be wrong !

That is why the SAE exists, Society of Automotive Engineers, all such documentation, briefs, supporting data, tests, approvals etc. are filed with the SAE, as well as other organisations.
