High tone opening door, then iPod won't work...

Brand new Nissan Murano SL 2014.

I'm baffled. Just drove to the library, listening to audible book on iPod. I arrive, stop car, put on brake and open door to get out. A high pitched alarm tone occurs. No light on dash signifying why. I left iPod connected, but inside center console.

I quickly do library errand, return to car, start it, and now my iPod (AUX) is not being read/heard by system, does not resume playing as it usually does. Nor does it appear on the center screen as it usually does.

I don't know if there's a relationship between the 2 things, what that 'alarm' like sound meant, or why the iPod did not begin.

I'm very new to using the 'system' and only use the iPod, so am not familiar with what buttons on the center dash to push for what reason. I tried 'Status', but nothing changed.

Can anyone help? Maybe guide me to resources for understanding mystery symptoms? I tried the manual for 'troubleshooting sounds', and there's nothing of the sort in the index.
