So I was watching a guy at the track last week drift a stock KA very very well and was wondering how he was sliding so well with SR's and RB's.

Come to find out that he was running 80 PSI in his tires. Thing is that most pressure gauges only work til 60 PSI.
I guess he found a formula for counting the amount of seconds till the point that it got to where he wonted his pressure.

So I'm wondering since this being a big forum for drift car that there has to be someone here that might know about that.
So has anyone seen anything like this?

im pretty sure your over thinking it. he probably had a high pressure gauge or something simple.

Either way if there was a formula, im sure it would be an exponential decrease in pressure going into the tire as it fills more and more. Try a high-end digital gauge? Iunno.

No I know that this is what he did. I also know that I could go find a gauge that would work. But I'm just interested in knowing how to do that just because I have a nack for things like that.

Maybe when his tire pressure gauge hits 60 he counts precisely to 5 Mississippi while still applying air to his tires.

or maybe you could practice drifting at a safe PSI instead of heating tires that are already overfilled.... IMO run a smaller width b4 you run higher psi

Yes again I am aware of that.

LOL, i just set up my tire pressures according to the way each individual tire wears. I find this the best thing to do.

hes probably just good...ive seen people at the track with stock as crap ka's on just coilovers (not even lowered mind you) and a diff destory on people with more built engines and more suspension

Yeah he was pretty experienced. But running high pressure on this high powered high speed stack was something he said significantly helped him. I am a person that knows it doesn't require horse power to drift.

But once again, I wasn't asking about how to do something to try and make my self a better driver. I just wanted to see if anyone has heard of a little PSI formula that I heard about.
I'm a strong believer in the fact that a better driver requires skills. Not mods and parts etc.

sweet sweet, ive read in mags that people run an upwards of 120 psi before problems, i notice a significant difference mostly in the front with the loss of understeer and tire responce as well

60 psi is where im usually at as for measuring higher without the gauge that goes higher, its probably easier to just get one or just guest if it takes 5 seconds to get from 40 psi to 60 psi its probably gonna take another 5 or better to fall short than go over

id say it depends on the tire and road condition but 80 psi is about double what the tire would usually reccomend lol

if your drifting like on a skid pad, blow outs happen, so WGAF!

meh I work at discount tire, Ive taken beads up to 90 psi or higher sometimes just to seat the beads. running 80 psi in a tire that maxes probably at 44psi is not a good idea, but hey, whatever works right? Tires are cheap(relatively)

you could try taking it to a tire shop like discount, they could put 80 in them. Haha if you get a new guy or someone that doesnt know the max pressures of a normal street tire...

Most tires passenger tires max out at 44psi and some up to 50psi. If you enjoy keeping your face in one piece, don't over inflate your tires. Unless your running some light truck tires that call for 80psi
