High RPM on start up??

i started my car this morning and the odometer and rpm meter both jump all the way to the last number and went down....i cant say that i've noticed this before....is this normal? what does everyone else gauges do on start up??

Normal. You can turn it on/off by holding down the ring light peg (left side of cluster, right side is the trip odo reset). That peg is used to turn the light ring around the gauges on/off -- dim when in night mode and if held for 2 seconds or more, turns on/off the gauge "excite" function. It does not correlate to the actual engine RPM, the speedo and tach just do a full sweep at start up.
