hey guys for a little while now whenever i go around or past 4k rpm i get a loud squeal from under my hood. i just changed my belts two days ago, the squealing seems to cut down a little bit around that rpm range but it still does squeal for a quick second sometimes...it usualy cuts off when it shifts (its an auto) then does it again really quick then stops. by this time im already in overdrive and going too fast so i have to slow down and repeat the cycle. i researched this a little bit and it appears that this problem is the belts being too loose or worn...but since it made the noise before AND after i had them changed to brand new ones by a mechanic (im sure he wouldnt leave them too loose) im guessing it could possibly be a worn pully? can anyone give me any insight into this problem towards what i would need to fix/replace to get rid of the squealing noise. its really unverving going at mid/high speeds and hearing it and im sure its not good for whatevers making that noise too. thanks for any help guys, appreciate it.

Try some belt dressing. If that dosn't work your problem is somewere else. Try reving it up and seeing if you can hear it squeel while your head is under the hood. Could be a bad tensioner, squeeling from alternator bearing, or ac pump making noise. When I have this problem and I cant figure it out I borrow a mechanics stethicope and listen around for the noise while I rev it up to tell were it is truely coming from.

hmm i did what you said and i think i narrowed it down to my fan being stuck. it doesent spin freely, and when i try to move it..sometimes the pulley spins along with it. I dont think it used to do this....so i tried to take off the 4 bolts holding the fan in place so i can see whats wrong, and give it a good cleaning but after i removed 3 bolts, the last one got stripped -_- its hard a f**k to get in that little area in between the fan and the engine so now im stuck with trying to see how i can remove a stripped bolt given a 2 inch space to work with.....sigh....
