Hi,

Yesterday while taking highway car suddently pushed back and i noticed the high rpm >4500 (normall it don't go over 3000) and car was not accelerating and remain low at 45 mps, so i stopped on the side and restart the car and then it works fine. What can be the possible issue?i30 with 59k milesoil,coolant,v-belts,cabin filter changed at 55k

Thanks--rubs

My first thought was that the car may have gone into limp mode, since your speed was restricted and the car went back to normal after restarting.

A common cause for this is a bad MAF. Try cleaning or replacing your MAF (I'd definitely try cleaning it first--they're pricey). You could also try running the car without the maf connected to see if it acts the same as you describe above. If it does, then that again points to your situation as a case of the car switching to limp mode.

Your I is a 2001, correct (I saw one of your Infiniti online mechanic threads...)? I don't remember when the electronic throttle was implemented (it was either 2000 or 2002), but I know that if the pedal is pressed past it's stopper it can cause the car to switch into limp mode.

Has the car been displaying abnormal behavior other than this recently?Limp mode can indicate a potentially severe problem.

Of course, it might not be limp mode, because as far as I know, it locks the car at or around 3000 rpm. Hopefully the others will chime in as well, and we can narrow this down for you.
