Has anyone experienced a burned oil smell coming from their G35 at high rev speeds....? Mine does. it is noticiable after stopping at a red light or parking when idling. The smell doesnt stay very long just for about a minute or two......

What could that be?

You're probably smelling clutch...or your oil dipstick is loose.

Hmmm! Okay, is that normal or should I get it checked out. b/c I noticed when the car is on an incline and get off the clutch, it makes a kind of grinding sound right before I turn it off, but only on a incline.

Welcome to NICO

If you do a search you can read my numerous posts on oil consumption

There is a G35 TSB on oil consumption. I'd recommend you contact the service manager at your local Infiniti dealer. The service manager told me the consumption occurs mostly at hi rev's and over rev's when downshifting.

Are you sure it's the smell of oil?

It could be clutch, but is more likely brakes.

At high speeds, your clutch shouldn't be slipping, therefore you shouldn't be smelling it. C-kwik, Jacko, stay out of this one!

I would take the car out for a spin and then pop the hood and start smelling around. I highly doubt it's oil you're smelling.

I had the same issues as well, when my previous engine was burning oil. I was given a revised engine, and my car does not burn or smell of oil any more.

Check you oil level regularly and see if your oil is depleting. Get an appointment with the dealership as quickly as you can if you notice the oil is going down fairly often. Good luck!

Make sure the rubber stopper on your dipstick is seated all the way. Mine wasn't and i had oil spew on to my exhaust manifold and smelled like burning oil for a week. I believe the "Grinding" you are experiencing is the traction control engaging on incline.

P.S. What year is your G?

Well if it's your dipstick, then I'd assume you would have (see) an oily mess in your engine compartment.Might be using oil though.... I'm likely in line for an updated engine through the dealer since mine apparently has an oil consumption problem. Your's might be trying to tell you the same thing?

My clutch also is pretty easy to smoke. If I drag it a little bit too much when I'm racing around you definintely can smell it.

But, oil and clutch really smell a fair bit different, IMO. If you aren't familiar with what smell it is, you might have a more knowledgable buddy ride along and "make it smell" for him to diag the prob.

It is a 2005.....6-speed. I love the car but it does drink alot of gas. But I guess comes with the territory. I took the dealer and they said that was normal to hear the nosie coming from the transmission. But I am going to tae it back cause I dont think that it is. It is happening too often now. The smell, cant pinpoint it, I have a friend that is going to ride with me and we will find out where it is coming from.....
