I've been searching through the archives latly and have seen alot of references to the differences in an sr motor as outlined in the subject above. I was just wondering what all the differences between them were.

high port and low port refer to the designs of the head ports between the different generations of the sr. the S13 is considered a high port head and flows more freely than the S14/S15 head which is considered to be a low port head.

long block and short block refer to how much of a motor you get. longblock is typically a full motor ready to drop into the car. Not sure if it includes electronics or if it refers to just the block and head.

Generally a long block is the motor, head, as well as all external accessories. Usually you won't get any electronics (such as CAS, coils, etc.) with it. I know that most SR20 vendors will give you both manifolds but WILL NOT include a turbo w/ a longblock unless you pay for it.

Shortblock is generally just the bottom end, no head, no accessories, no manifolds.

High port heads are the way to go if you want to make big power with the SR20DET. If you are just going to buy a motor and have no intention of rebuilding it, forget about the highport head. The S13 motor you'll get at this point will have so many miles on it, that you really wouldn't want to be making the 500+ hp that you'd have to make in order to notice the difference.

Yeah but there is no point in that, might as well just get a S13 SR.

longblock is just the head and block. Nothing else. All parts in the head and block are there though. No accessories

Correct. As far as I know the actual block for all SR20DET's are the same (provided you're talking about RWD blocks only). The heads are different however.

There are differences, but they are minor (oil filter, oil filter pickup, waterpump design, etc), all the torque values, bolting orders and basic architecture are the same.
