I have been having this high pitched whistle/ringing sound coming from the engine only at 3400 to 3600 RPM's, doesn't matter if its in gear or in neutral, in motion or stopped. Since last night its gotten louder after my E-fan went out and the car over heated to the point that it spilled some coolant. Car still runs great but that sound has gotten louder. Not sure what would couse this sound and why only at those RPM's? I hope you guys can help me out here.

only thing i can think of is its overheating, boiling the water, and thats where you hear the sound. its like putting watter in a teapot then putting it on the stove.. is that the sound your hearing?

The sound was noticeable before the E-Fan failed. The car only over heated once when the fan didn't kick in. I fixed the fan situation and no longer have any overheating issues but the high pitch sound seems to be louder.

I was thinking it might be the water pump, but I replaced it a little over a year ago and I have no overheating issues or leaks. The thing that's weird about this is that the sound only kicks in at 3400 RPM and ends at 3600 RPM, besides that i don't hear anything.

I would say your water pump is bad, your ac compresor is bad, or your belts need to be adjusted. IF they are way to tight the belts will squeal really loud.

The last time the water pump went out, coolant started to leak through the holes on the pump housing. My current pump seems to be pushing the coolant just fine, but I'll look in to that. The ac system still blows cool air. I'm not sure what are the symptoms of a bad ac compressor, besides not having any cool air through the vents.I will try to adjust the belts and see if that solves it.Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll keep you guys posted if i find the culprit. If any one else have any idea not mention please let us know.
