Coming over to school my car started making a tapping sound, but I figured "oh well" and kept driving it. Didn't seem like the power was affected too much. Well, I drove it around today and it's still doing it. The noise increases with engine speed and it seems to be coming out from underneath the valve cover. It also does it, no matter what temperature the engine is at.

Don't tell me timing chain, because this is definitely not a rattle, but more of a tapping / dinging. I've guessing it's something going on with the valves. Any ideas?

Good thread link kid, I'll have to check them when I get a free weekend. So if they're loose, the only possibility is air?

Congrats on 1500 btw.

air, or they could just be worn out, which i guess would lead to air being in them, so i guess what im trying to say is yes, that is correct.

they are fairly cheap, and why your in there, if i were you, i would replace all of them if they are bad, just for my peace of mind

Also, I'm planning to rebuild an engine while I'm home from school (different from the one that's in there right now) so I suppose my question is, can I run it as it is for ~3k more miles without damaging the engine?

Cool, thanks.

One more question: are the intake and exhaust lifters the same?
