I have searched and searched but no one appears to have had this problem before...I have a 2006 Infiniti FX35 with all features.

The issue happened this past Monday (two days ago) where I left work around 5pm, started my car, and a weird sound emitted for 5+ min while my car was on idle. The sound was like a microphone getting too close to a speaker. It stayed consistent for 3 min then would taper off and then come on full blast again. It also appears to be from the inside front, driver side. I turned off the engine and the sound would go away. I turned on the engine again and the sound continued from where it left off again and again. The sound finally stopped when I drove for a few minutes. The sound was fine all the way home (45 min). Then I decided to drive the car to the mechanic and the sound happened again when I was sitting in traffic. The Mechanic couldn't find anything wrong with it. Car has been fine ever since the trip to the Mechanic until today Wednesday where it happened again at my workplace going home. No warning lights on dashboard or computer screen, radio is off, bluetooth off, AC is off, etc. What could it be??? Any advice?

Regards,Linda

IF THE PITCH CHANGES WITH ENGINE SPEED, IT COULD BE THE BELTS. IF THE NOISE IS CONSTANT AND COMING FROM INSIDE THE VEH, i HAVE HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH THE LANE DEPARTURE CAMERA IF YOUR CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH LANE DEPARTURE. THE INSIDE BUZZER IS LOCATED TO THE LEFT OF THE RADIO INSIDE THE CENTER CONSOLE. DO NOT REPLACE THE BUZZER. I HAVE TRIED IT AND IT WILL STILL CONTINUE TO MAKE NOISE. THE CAMERA WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AND AIMED.

Thanks for getting back to me! The pitch does not change with engine speed. The sound is definitely loud inside the vehicle and concentrated at my steering wheel area. I turned the lane departure off and on with no changes in sound...

The sound has been getting worse and worse - meaning the high pitch sound comes on almost all the time I start driving and last longer. My mechanic of many years did a lengthy search on the infiniti website and said that it is most likely due to a loose or worn PCV valve. I am taking the car to him tomorrow so we will find out.

I assume your warranty has expired?

Not sure how long is the warranty...It's a 2006 with 28,000 miles on it.

As for the trip to the mechanic, he did a part-by-part inspection and assured me that the high-pitched sound is not mechanical, rather a warning device. He said he played around with the settings on the car's computer, took off almost every sensor/warning setting, and presto! the sound has not happened since last Saturday. I believe the sensor went crazy as I had almost every option selected for the car (i.e. automatic headlights, speed control wipers, intelligent key recognition beep, lift steering wheel upon entry, blah blah blah). The car was probably trying to tell me something lol

It should be well within your bumper to bumper warranty (unless it was voided for some reason e.g. car was totaled) and you should be able to use all of the features you want. I would turn anything you want back on and if it comes back, take it in.

Good luck!
