If anybody has any sort of a sound system in their Z you've probably run into the same problem as I have recently, which is the 90 amp alternator (which on my car only tests at max ~65 amps (even when cold) after 15 years of use). My amp alone can pull 240 amps of current (dont ask, 2.5kw rms) and so despite the two 10 fahrad caps, my system shuts down if I put it under any sort of extenuous load for more than a few seconds.
Life story aside, I found a guy who is great with high-output alternators and he can hook me up with 150 amp (hot [edit: temperature]) alternators for 145$US but I have to buy at least 2 (shipping is 20$ anywhere in the US & canada).
So if anybody wants/needs one, let me know and we'll go in on it together!
Also worth mentionning is these alternators, due to their build technique and materials (bearings, elements and wire size/interlace), are higher efficiency than the stock ones and can run your stock appliances with less restriction.
Even a rebuilt is 120$US + 50$US core charge -- it's a pretty good price even if you're just replacing your old alternator.
