Does anyone know if someone makes a high output alternator for the 5.6? Has anyone added a second battery?

My battery keeps dying and I was thinking that adding a second battery would help with the capacity. TBH, I have no idea why the battery drains so fast with the car off. The only guess I have is the vline draining power before it shuts off completely.

There's also corrosion on the negative terminal after a while and the interwebs says that's due to undercharging. I would have expected undercharging before disabling the dumb charging feature.

If you already have the "smart charging" disabled, then either your battery is dying, your existing alternator is bad, or you have a draw someplace. You'd be wise to get the existing battery tested, then break out your voltmeter for some testing before throwing money at a second battery.

That doesn't mean the alternator can't have a bad diode causing a draw, or that the battery can't have gone south from repeated deep discharges and jumpstarts. Recharging a standard lead-acid battery after deep discharge quickly eats up the plates, just three episodes can reduce your CCA by 30% and more.

If you haven't done the wire disconnect to disable the alternator charging all the time do that first. While you are in there I'd replace the battery add well to start fresh.

It is so damn stupid that Infiniti did this but they did.

Good luck

I was one of the first to do that after you made the initial post. Did you do yours yet?
Alt and batt were both replaced at the time

Sorry man. I forgot the dumb fedex guy killed your M.
But yea the disable doesn't work long term. I don't understand why. Alternator charges at 13.8V - 14.4V now vice 11V before it was disabled, but battery started dying again after half a year or so. I think Ilya ran into the same condition.

Mine was due to having a crappy acid battery. Even after the disable it was still funky. But then, I heard that Advance Auto started selling Diehard batteries (which I had before that crap one that lasted many years) with the added bonus that they were AGM and I ran to the store the first day they had them. Been fine since. Even in - temps, car remote starts fine, etc. No crazy random alarms for the last year or so. For the record, my car did 4kmi the last 2 years each. Thing moves like once a week and if I do drive it, it's usually less than 10 miles most of the time.

Get yourself a nice AGM battery and see if that don't fix your issue.
