Was looking into upgrading my altenator in my 1991 240SX for use with 2way radio equipment. I also use high powered ham radio equipment in the car and was wondering about any tips or advice about a high output altenator before I jump to a dual battery system.

There is an article on how to install a Nissan Quest minivan alternator in the 240. It was listed as an upgrade after the install of a underdrive pulley to keep voltage up. I think it would work well for your purpose as well. To my knowledge the equipment you mentioned would not pull much more power than an aftermarket stereo w/ amp and sub. I ran a stock alternator w/ 2 amps and 2 subs on my old hatch in college a few years ago w/ no trouble. But if you think you need it try the Quest upgrade in the articles section.

^ Agreed.

You guys, check the Articles forum before sending someone off to spend a bloody fortune on an alternator...
