Well the other day I was driving my car and I noticed it started to over heat so I turned on the air to Hot and just let it vent into the car and drove it straight home.

I then let it sit for about 5-6 Hours and when I was going to drive it to the gym the oil pressure gauge kept reading extremely high about 85 when giving it abit of gas and 35 with no gas. So I let it sit overnight and preceded to start it today and it is now reading about 50 with no gas and about 95 with gas.

I was wondering what can be the normal causes of this, and what would you suggest that I check.

Btw I have a RB25.

Thanks,~Nate

it happens because oil is thicker when it is cold

Hmmm I let it warm up today then gave it abit of gas but it still has the same problem. Its running at 35 again but when I give it gas it goes up around 95psi.

what weight oil are you using? how long did you let it warm up for? those all factor in to your pressure readings. 25-75 psi is more like normal for 10w30 oil hot (180 degrees).

See thats the thing I dunno what oil he was using, so im doing a fresh oil change with Amsoil 10w-30 100% Synthetic High Performance Motor Oil. I let it heat up for about 30mins, temp gauge was reading right in the middle.

So i gave it some gas went right upto 95 so I turned it off and tried again, same thing.

maybe something is up with your gauge or sender. electronic or mechanical?

either way, it doesnt sound like something terrible is happening. could just be your oil is too cold. new oil has higher viscosity than old oil. it also heats up slower.

Usually takes mine about 10 minutes of driving to get the oil up to 190F operating temps. Until then, my pressure stays pretty high like you are experiencing. That's why it is important to let it get up to operating temp before thrashing it.

Yea the gauge is a electronic one. I'm currently going to hook up a brand new oil pressure gauge I had laying around to see if the problem persists.

I changed the oil and ran it around for about an hour and it still was reading abit high in lower gears but in 4th and 5th it stays around 50.

Should be directly related to revs not gear selection unless you aren't taking into account 4th and 5th obviously run the engine slower. Seems odd to me because you should have the same oil pressure at 3000 rpm in 2nd gear as 3000 rpm in 5th gear.

Dunno maybe I just wasn't noticing that it was the same, but it runs fine from 1000-3000rpms then right when the turbo starts to spool it jumps to about 95, but I'm about to put a Mechanical Oil Pressure Gauge on so maybe its just the gauge went bad
