Would rod bearing clearances that were on the tight side cause high oil pressure at idle?

Or do I have a gay oil pump thats giving me to much pressure?

Im seeing something like 50 psi at 1100rpm idle when warm.

this oil pressure can be seen even with 10w-30.

If the car idles to long it starts smoking.

I dont have a turbo oil restrictor, hopefully that will take care of things.

Just curious as to what you guys see for pressure at 1000rpm when warm.

why do you have the idle set that high?

whats it matter meyn!

cause i have the fast idle junk removed and when coming down from high revs....say 2nd gear to limiter then e-brake, the revs stumble below 800 rpm and make the car more dificult to drive.

rod and main bearing clearances able to have that much an effect on oil pressure?

I doubt it, the extra resistance would just push the oil up into the head more. You could run a thicker oil to drop the pressure. I tend not to trust factory guages. did you just rebuild the engine or something?

Yes Its a fresh motor.

A thicker oil would cause pressure to increase, would it not?

Im monitoring pressure via an autometer mechanical gauge.

It is a brand new oil pump??

whoops, sorry, meant to say thinner. I was distracted by a lucious browny at the time.

What was the pressure before the overhaul? How well did you clean the oil passages? Have you confirmed the gauge is correct?

It could be the bearings still, what were the clearances you used?

thicker oil = more oil pressure.

I'm running 10W40 atm and see ~15 to 25psi on idle (850rpm) when warm.

pressure before rebuild unknown.

no schwarf in oil passages, clean clean clean.

brand new oil pump.

have not confirmed that the gauge is indeed correct.

suppose I will start there.

thanks
