So i've bought a 240sx project recently and started to fiddle with it. the Engine is the KA of course and it's got 232xxx on the clock. I haven't matched it but im about 99% positive it's the original motor and so here's my query: A) is there any other maintenance aside from the normal tune-up i should do? and i was thinking about seafoaming it to clean the injectors and whatnot..any ideas? Also, with that many miles i was thinking (when the $$ is on hand) about rebuilding the top end..SO would it be alright to turbo a motor this high in mileage? or would it be alright to after all the rebuilding??Thanks!

Well, that question can't be answered w/ a 100% guarantee. While some motors w/ high mileage (such mileage as your motor) will do o.k. boosted, most will need a rebuild. Best thing to check is the compression. Your local parts store should rent them or at least sell them. They are a good tool to have. Good compression on a high mileage engine tells you either A: The engine was taken vary good care of (I.E.: not pushed hard, maintaned, etc.) orB: It was previously rebuilt.

If you rebuild the motor you will want to do more than the top end. You will want to change Rod & Main bearings, Piston rings, at least a good honing, get a ridge reamer (again, should be at a parts store), Also, you should get a basic set of measuring tools. Dial or didgital calipers (didgital are my fav), Dial indicators (measures crank end-play, brake rotor end-play, and a lot more) inside and outside micrometers, and a good torque wrench. Youls need to check the deck surfaces for warpage. Both the block and head. The head will warp before the block cause the head is aluminum and the block is Iron. But the block can still warp. Check the cylindars for "out-of-round" and taperCheck the main journals for warpageCheck (w/ main caps on and torqued and crank not installed) the mains "out-of-round.Measure the crank (where the bearings go) for size and look for visual scars. (this will give you an idea for the bearing sizes you'll need)Measure the rods (w/caps on and torqued) for size and out-of-roundMeasure the pistons diameter vs cylinder diameter (there's a min clearance that has to be followed between the 2)There's more I can't think of but everything eccept checking the mains you can perform w/ engine still in the car.

no prob. Just don't expect everyone to be as kind as I am. Some people would have just decided to flame instead of being usefull. Just a heads up

C.P. and leak down test are good to do as well. while you build a motor to handle boost
