I've been looking into going the ka turbo route for my s14.

I've researched plenty, and I know what I'm doing (for the most part).

I'm just starting to get worried now. My motor has 80k. I did a compression check, and the front two were perfect, back two just a bit below the fronts. Want to recheck and find out what's going on there. I've also noticed what seems to be a timing chain rattle starting. That's not a good thing... but I don't know how bad it will be either.

I'd much rather turbo my ka than go sr, but I can't afford to blow it up if something goes wrong.

Anyone have any input on boosting a higher mileage motor? Should I just wait and pick a different motor?

Hrmph, well if it did happen to go bad you can get low mileage KAs for relatively cheap ~200-600. But you may want an engine rebuild for a high mileage (80k isnt that bad) KA, as many people would suggest doing in your situation. You could benefit from honing, new pistons, etc. but it is all your decision. Good luck either way.

So no one has experience with boost on a motor like this?

It runs well now, but I'm not sure what 8 psi would do to it.

I ran 28 psi on a RB20 with 210,000 miles on it woohoo....

80,000 isn't bad really. Find out why your timing chain is making noise, fix whatever you fine and boost her up.

Um, incase you don't already know this. I don't like having a motor with greater then a 5-10 psi difference between the highest and lowest compression. Anymore then that and you have a problem that will need to be fixed before adding boost. Sorry the reply took a bit, I've been going out straight with all these pre deployment things needing to be done.

I'm pretty sure it was close to a 5 psi diff. I will recheck.

like WD said, as long as your compression is the same on all cylinders, you're fine. A motor can be tired and still fine for boost. My SOHC was at 155 across the board a year ago before I turboed it, it's holding up fine under a heavy 7lbs.

135,210k today. 1400miles of 5-6psi. Compression is still 180-185 across the board.
