Hi all,

I am new to the forum and I'm about to buy a 2010 G37S with 100,000 miles on it. I would like to get people's thoughts about the reliability of this car. I would drive it about 15000 miles per year and plan to use it for at least 3 years. Please let me know if you think it is a safe assumption that this car will make it to 150k miles with routine maintenance.

I have heard that the fatal flaw in these cars is a leak in the oil system, specifically in the rear timing cover, caused by a paper gasket used in models up until 2011. Is this a common fault or just something that happens to an unlucky few? I plan to have the dealer test the car's oil pressure before I purchase it.

My previous car was a 2005 Volvo s60r, and unfortunately a cylinder sleeve cracked at 60,000 miles due to a manufacturing defect and the car was totaled. I do not want to have to experience this again- so let me know if you think it is foolish to buy a high mileage g37 that is susceptible to the nightmare oil leak.

*edit* feel free to share ownership stories.. I want to get to know this car well before I buy it.**
Thanks all,
Noah

Welcome to NICO Club!

I almost bought a 350Z a couple months ago. They've really come down in price. I think they're great cars, but will let someone with experience chime in.

Mine has more than 100k, no major problems yet. But I’m also routine in performing maintenance and looking for trouble before it starts. More info you have about the car like if it was serviced by Infiniti, or other service records, that indicate what has been done in the past, etc. These might help you decide if it’s worth acquisition.

Yeah, service records. I have read that the front suspension arms have bushings or something that wears out and they get replaced. Not sure if that all of them or just a good handful. I'd pay attention to that during inspection of the vehicle and records.

As an original owner I've got a 2011 G37S sedan with about 84K miles. I've had zero problems. Normal maintenance, like regular oil & filter changes, are all you need. The car is great.

We just bought a 2009 g37 for my son 3 weeks ago. It has 152,000 on it. And frankly I like the acceleration better on the older car than on my 2012 g37 that only has 23k on it. AND the previous owner was.... not great on maintenance. The car thus far has proven to be quite solid.

I have heard some crazy numbers on these engines as far as how far they can go. Look your prospective car over real good, get the carfax, and don't fall in love with it until it makes good financial sense.
