High Idling.. Even after adjustments!

My problem started yesterday. Was driving perfectly well and then the next stop I made the idling leaps to around 2000rpm from the normal 500-800rpm! It refused to come down and is still up there everytime I have the clutch in or the car in neutral (Free). The only thing I can think of is that I had changed the air filter a couple of week ago. Any ideas out there? Certainly appreciate some! Someone had mentioned changing the Air Mass Meter. Any validity in that action?
