i have notice that the idle on my 89 240 has been sitting around 1700 RPM's and i really don't like it being that high. My Chiltons is rediculous and has almost nothing about the KA24E. Does anyone one know how to adjust the idle on the SOHC and maybe more importanly what could be some things that would make my car idle so high.

Common problems:1. Vaccum leak2. IACM - Idle Air Control Motor (bolted into throttle body normally)3. Maybe the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor), but highly unlikely.

I'd say check your vaccum lines - it's easy and free.

also, an air intake leak made my idle higher than normal...

the rubber boot between the throttle body & the plastic air intake pipe had a huge rip in it, allowing more air that wasn't measured by the MAFS. I used duct tape to repair my leak since every1 was kinda overcharging me on that rubber piece.

scroll down near the end for 1 of the high idling causes. good luck!

where the trottle cable comes to the throttle body there are two nuts...you can adjust it there but you may want to find the reason why it's so high before you just go and mask the problem
