I recently had the engine of my 90 Q occasionally having a parking idle of 1500 and drive idle of about 1000. It is also a tad sluggish it seems. I was wondering if someone could tell me what may be causing this. I replaced the MAF sensor 2 weeks ago, cleaned the throttle body, and tested the fuel injectors with a voltmeter and everything is a go. As far as I know, my car hasn't had the chain guides replaced yet, and the engine barely reached 90K miles. This started last week, any ideas?

A/C on or off?

Is the idle constant or does it fluctuate?

MAF new or used?

Any leaks?

Done anything to the AAC valve?

Why, in the name of the great maker, haven't you done the guides?

It will only occasionally have a higher idle, but normally it is fine. The MAF was new, and I have only had the car about 1 month so I dont know where to get the chain guides as a complete set. I have found pieces here and there, but need to know all the parts required to do the job (i plan to drop the oil pan too, so chain guides plus all gaskets ans oil pan gasket prices and where to get the would be helpful!!!) I live off the beach in southern California, so I never really need the A/C, it is always off. Any suggestions would help.

One month is long enough without addressing this problem berfore the engine is ever turned again. Ever thought you might already have jumped a sprocket and are a crank away from totaling your engine?

A few years ago this board alone had 3 Q45 1992 that met death by guide failure in a six month period.

Sounds like a vacuum leak.
