just changed the head gasket not to long ago on my KA24DE and got it running up to par so took it out for a drive a few times. Just went out again and everything seemed good so did a little pull in 3rd gear.

as soon as I let off the gas I put it back into neutral but I noticed after a second that the revs were staying around 3k so I checked to make sure it was going into neutral and all the gears. No problem there.

Pull over to see if the throttle was sticking and everything was ok, checked the pedal and everything was ok.

Got it home pulled the intake off to check it out.

Plate not sticking or cable. Still does it while the cable is disconnected from the TB

Unplugged TPS to see if it would change and no change.

Adjusted the IACV with no luck.

The car was idleing fine before I took it out and it happend right after I did the pull in 3rd.

Now everytime I start it goes to around 4000 RPM and stops so I have to shut it off right away.

No clue whats going on with it so please help me out guys.

How do I adjust the TPS?

I didn't know you could adjust it.

Are you talking about the IACV?

If so adjusting it is not the problem, I think it is either a bad vacuum leak or a bad IACV

throttle positioning sensor.. it's held tight by 2 screws.. loosen those, and rotate the tps slightly, counterclockwise i think, but not for sure.. it will lower your idle ..

just do it when the car is running, have a friend there to help you.. once it is lowered down to what you want, tighten it down.

So I'm confused, the car sat a few days because I didn't feel like working on it after work and started it up and it was at about 1400rpm.

unplugged the maf and for a split second it changed then went right back to the 1400rpm. Turned the car off, started it back up and it jumped right up to 4000rpms.

When it was running at 1400rpms it wasn't very smooth and was running very rich and white smoke coming out of the exhaust.

I know white smoke usually means a bad headgasket but it doesn't smoke when it is idleing at 4000.

Any clue what is going on with my car?

If the head gasket did go bad could it cause the car to idle like that?

The weird thing is that if the car sits for a day or 2 and I start it it won't shoot up to 4000rpms but to around 1400. Then after I shut the car off and start it, it goes back up to 4000rpms

Don't think it is a vacuum leak, just gone done spraying the piss out of the intake manifold with brake cleaner and no change in idle.

if it was a vacuum leak ur car wouldnt stay on at idle, it sounds like a bad maf i had the same problem running rich, white smoke erratic idle then changed the maf everything better!

I have the same damn problem. Only I'm positive my heads bad, you should see the oil. Looks like bad chocolate milk. But the MAF thing that would cause it to idle high and run rich?? I'll have to change that I noticed my spark plugs (brand new) after about a month are fried. And my cars idles around 6000.

Sorry for the thread jack but same prob and I didn't want to start a new one.

Really? so it might just be gas mixing with oil not coolent? What else would cause my gas to run that rich? Oh plus it's pouring white smoke out the exhaust.
