I had to get the old S12 smogged yesterday and had a whopping (lol) .077 GPM over the max limit for hydrocarbons. This leads me to believe that I am running rich.

Anyone got any ideas or a plan of attack for me? Its deadly hot out, so I don't wanna screw around checking a million things. But also, I do want to get the problem soved the correct way, not just a crutch to get past the sniffer.

The idle is dipping regularly but the motor stays running, and I hope it has something to do with the current rich issue rather than another thing I have to fix.

Anyways, help please

If its running rich you may check the O2 sensor, make sure its giving a proper reading. That can cause a rich condition

Other than that, only other possible scenarios I can think of are maybe the MAF isn't giving a proper signal and may just need to be cleaned, dirty air filter, injectors sticking a bit, fuel pressure regulator may have a bad vacuum signal... but those are a bit less likely I think. I wouldn't be surprised if the O2 sensor helped out. May check the codes on the ECU first and see if it has anything stored. A bad O2 sensor, nor even a missing O2 sensor will throw a check engine light but it will store a code.
