I have a 2009 rogue with 90K miles. A few weeks ago, I replaced the drive belt and later started hearing a high pitched noise coming from engine. It was just louder than usual at high speeds (60 - 80 M/h) and I thought might be the new drive belt since it was very tight to put in. I took the new belt off and put back the old drive belt back on just to see if it will eliminate the noise but the engine got even louder! It seems once the engine reaches the operational temp or high speed, then the high pitched noise comes up and it gets louder as I accelerate and quieter as the speed slows down.

What's weird is I don't hear any unusual noise when I start the car in the morning and drive slow. Any thoughts of what to look for here?

Thank you so much

Perhaps it's the belt tensioner. The bearing could be bad. Although you mentioned that you don't hear anything when you start your car. I still wouldn't rule it out.

Does the sounds seem like it's any internal engine noise or external? Can you still hear it at an idle and pin point what side of the engine the noise is coming from?

i had the same exact issue with 08 Rogue, 78K miles.. it seems like when the engine reaches a certain temp it whines. the faster you go the louder it whines.. brought it the dealer and they cant find anything..

tried revving while park, to see/hear if i can pin point where the whine is coming from but now whine while at a stop.. very weird :gotme

didnt find any solution for it, until I traded the car for a new rogue.. :dblthumb:

The noise sounds internal to me. I did try to let the car idle after driving and open the hood to hear the noise. I don't hear any noise if I'm at stop sign at all but what sometimes happen is the car shakes for few seconds if the AC is on! When I put back the old belt, I checked the AC pulley and it kind of moves sideways a little bit and makes a knock sound. I don't if that is enough to cause the noise when driving though or the engine to shake a little bit at stop sign while the gear is on drive.

I ordered a new belt and I'm going to see if anything changes again. Do you know to test if the belt tensioner is causing that noise for sure? Thank you for your comments and advise. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know! I'm not ready to trade my car for a new rogue, yet! :)

Did you get the OEM belt from Nissan? or an after market one? Some after market ones have been know to be too long or short.

This is a good video to try and find the noise or bad pulleys

Thank you darylzero for the video. It is really helpful. I got a new Dayco belt #5060710 which was very tight to put in and soon I will be replacing it with Gate brand belt. It is a bit longer than Dayco belt and hopefully won't make any noise. It looks like the goodyear belt does a good job of reducing noise and I was not aware of the alignment being something to check for. I have some little movement in the AC pulley but not sure if that is normal or not. I will put the new Gate belt on soon and check all pulleys too. I will share an update with what ever I find. Thank you again for your feedback.

see this thread about the serpentine belt post6571550.html?hilit=serpentine%20belt#p6571550

I would suggest using the OEM belt.

I did put a new drive belt this evening and when I drove the rogue for a test, I still hear a loud noise. I did notice though, if I turn the steering wheel slightly to the left while driving, the noise almost disappears and gets a bit louder if I turn slightly to the right! It doesn't seem a drive belt problem to me! The noise still comes from the passenger side of the car and the right wheel is not rubbing on anything. Any thoughts on what this might be? wheel bearings?! I have recently put in new sway bar links on both front wheels.

Thank you
