plan on doing a ka24de swap in my 84 s12. was going to go KA-T but doing a high compresion all motor setup would be pretty cool. im looking for 10:1 compression or higher, lopey high reving cams etc....the car will be more/less a weekend toy for drifting/autocross....i drive a lexus IS300 as my daily.

what cams do you reccomend? i want a lopey idle with mid-top end power

can i use E pistons in a DE block with big cams?

or...would i be better off just buying high comp pistons for a DE?

i know that the rods and the crank will handle the compression so im not worried about them. im going to have the rods shot peened and have the rotating assembly balanced.

ok, engine managment.....what do you reccomend?

fuel system.....should i upgrade? bigger pump, injectors,maf?

any info or help would be great guys.....i know there are some die hard NA guys out there..

I would suggest Jim Wolf for the cams and piston suggestions. They were very helpful when I was building up the SR in my NX2k. I was doing a lower budget build of the SE-R in Sport Compact Car years back. It was not cheap, but well worth it. Wish I could be more informative.

You don't need new pistons and rods for 200whp.

in order to bump the compression up i have to get different pistons....im looking for 10.5:1 to 11:1 compression.

ive been told today that my best bet is to get a set of forged highcompression pistons with enough valve relief for big cams like the brian crower stage 3.

There is mich truth in that, but I saw 11.1 or so compression on SOHC pistons, (in a DOHC motor) and Crower V3 cams, and it worked fine. The bottom end will need work.

You can just grab some 10.5:1 pistons, JWT cams, JWT ecu, and call it a day. It will surely give you around 170/180+whp

The best cams that I have seen for an NA ka24de are the colt cams. you can find them on http://www.pdm-racing.com. Most other cams that are available for the KA completely KILL the bottom end, these only have a small drop in bottom torque and HP and gave 10hp to the wheels on an I/H/E KA and the power band was really smooth.

I personally have 10.5:1 compression and am running BC V3 cams- no problems. You'll probably want to check clearance when building the engine anyway, just in case. V3 cams need upgraded valve springs too.JWT ECU is not very effective, unless you can get to their shop and have them actually tune it there. Some KA guys around here are running biki-rom (sp?) and other stand-alones. look through some KA pages and you'll find plenty of info, I'm sure.

Does anyone have any experience with the BC V2 cams? I e-mailed them and they said that they would give 18-20 WHP on average......I find that REALLY hard to believe. I like the power curve of the PDM cams but they are alot more expensive than the V2's. The PDM ones are about $700.00

I used to have the V2 cams. There actually was not a huge difference between the 2 with the setup I'm currently running. I still have more tuning to do and a few other pieces to figure out. In fact, I may still have the extra set (but you would have to degree the cams because they are off by 10 degrees or so).I don't remember if V2s required upgraded valve springs (I think not, but you should check). That may be your answer right there- if you don't want to upgrade valve springs, I'd probably recommend V2s for the money.
