High beam switch problem?

I have a 1991 240sx hatch and the high beams don't work. Is this a common problem in these cars? I'm not totally for sure about the switch but it seems the most likely cause as, they worked for awhile, but didn't switch on all the time, one worked and the other didn't, etc. I've replaced the sealed beams twice and no go. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

someone posted a similar situation recently but got no reponse. the switch sounds like a good place to look first. the lights have 4 relays and a timer etc. .Very complicated so hope it is the switch.
