i was at canal street in manhattan a few days ago and i stopped in one car audio store and saw this hifonics BX1605D mono-block amp. i know that hifonics is no joke and that they are pretty powerful so i was like "how much for that amp?" the dude is like "$250". now... i have 3 10" in a sealed box in my G50, two alpine type-E SVC 4-ohm, and one old *** JL audio sub (i heard its 125W), they are powered by an MTX MXA-4002 2 channel amp (apparently no one carries this one anymore). my question is does anyone think its a good idea to put away the MTX and buy the hifonics amp? which one would last longer if i push it REALLY hard?o yeah, does anyone know if any place besides like circuit city or best buy sells car audio stuff w/ some kinda protection plan?

first off, hifonics amps are no joke. i have a brutus bx1500d wired at 1 ohm, and i have blown three seperate orion h2's, which can handle 2500rms and 5000peak. maybe my amp is underrated, or maybe the sub is overrated. either way, be careful with hi powered hifonics amps on relatively low powered subs.

NO need to get new subs if you're happy with your current ones. You just have to set the gain properly and they'll be fine

That's a good price for that amp

im happy with the subs i got now, BUT, i dont wanna set the gains too high and blow them, ya know?i was thinkin like gettin a new box to fit 2 15" or 12", then possibly kicker or phoenix gold subs to match the power, or if i get a good deal maybe the alpine type-xnot to mention i need a good cap, like 2 faradthen i can enjoy the massage

Remember, you can set any amp to any power level. You can set that hifonics amp to put out 100w rms @ 1ohm if you set the gain properly. Or you can have it put out its full power by setting the gain properly.

I recommend setting the gain by ear. Turn it up until you here distortion. Then turn it to the last place that distortion didn't occur. Oh yeah, you should set the HU at the HIGHEST volume that you'll ever listen to it at, for most people this is 75%
