I have an 06 G35 coupe so HID comes standard. I want to change the color of my headlight to blueish. Do I buy the HID bulb (8000k) only or do I need to buy the ballast also? Thanks,Mike

the higher temperature will not illuminate as well, unless you are just going for a 'cool' look

Just change out the bulbs, and like the guy above stated, higher ranges don't translate into better visibility. The idea is to approximate the sun's light, which the blue lights (they're actaully white but are perceived as blue by the eye) when reflected onto the retina (where photoreceptor cells that sense light and color reside), are most visible. The retina is like the film in a camera. Anyway, you weren't asking for an eye lesson-- at the higher range, you're moving into a purple light, nice to look at but it's wavelength is too scattered to be of much use for seeing or being seen. Stick to the OEM suggested range if possible-- it's safer all around.

Hope this helps.

are the OEM HID bulbs and the OEM Fog light(inside housing) the same bulb ?

I want to change out the lower bulb to somewhat match the upper bulb in color ? any suggestions ?

No, the HIDs and fogs are different bulbs. Here's the thing with fog lamps that I don't think people quite understand. The reason fog lamps have the yellowish hue like halogen headlamps is because it has a longer wavelength than a higher K bulb and illuminates the road right in front of you much better because the light gets scattered all over. A higher K bulb's light gets reflected in a more direct path, so depending on which way a particular beam goes, it may not illuminate the road. So if you live in an area with fog, heavy rains, or heavy snow (particularly snow because it'll reflect right back at you), this may not be a good idea. The aftermarket driving/fog lamps that you buy that are HID, the people that buy those use them for the looks and/or as driving lamps, so they make them in HID for those purposes. I have to say it does look cool, but the functionality is reduced and it can be potentially hazardous to other drivers due to the increased output (I've had friends ordered by cops to take theirs off here in MI so apparently there's a cap in output here?).

Increasing K rating = FAIL
