I have an HID question that I could not find through search.

Now where I live I use my high beams at least 40% of the time, maybe even more, so it makes sense to me to make my lo and hi beams HID. However, I thought there was something like HIDs take a while to warm up or something(I am new at this so I really have no clue) so in other words, when I switch to high beams will there be a time without lights? Isnt the stock HIDs on the 3.5 coupe HID for low and hallogen for hi, thought I read something like that in the manual. This is probably a really dumb question, but I am just curious.

Also, does anyone have any recommendations on which ones to get(I have a 2.5 coupe)? I have no real idea what the like 3000k 6000k or whatever means.

I am really eager to modify my car now since some person just got the same exact car as mine at school. Well same color, he/she doesn't have all the "goodies" in it though.

the HID's only take a few seconds to fire up.. maybe 20 seconds or so until they're fully ready. The # pretty much corresponds to color. 3000k is yellow.. 4300k is yellowish white.. 5000k is crystal white.. 6000k is white with a hint of blue.. 8000k is blue.. 10000k is purplish.. 12000k is purple.. and so on.

it is also important to point out that the higher the number, the less usable light. like people with the 10,000K look bright but the 5000k will give you much better visibility. the 4300k is the stock temperature for cars with HIDs (premium package). i have 5000k HIDs on my car and they're whiteish blue..... honestly i recommend 4300k or 5000k.

It also isn't generally recommended to turn the ballasts off and then off again rather quickly, so for high beams turning them off for an on-coming car, and then flipping them on again isn't ideal to their life-span. I also believe since they have to warm up you will loose your flash to pass feature; well maybe not loose, but you'll have to hold it for a bit before they do anything, so flashing the idiot that is about to, or has cut you off won't be as effective. Most high-end cars that have HID's for highs use a bi-xenon projector, where the movement to the high-beam just removes the cut-off flap on the lens; also they generally still use a halogen bulb as well for high beams due to the delay in the flap moving.

If i want my headlights to be blueish but not tacky blue is 8000k good or to much, i basically want them to be the color of a high end car

I wouldn't recommend anything higher than 6000k. 8000 would be more purpleish than blue. I'm pretty sure though that most "high end" cars use 4300k as they're the brightest.

would you say there is any blue in them at all?? or is it straight white, do they resemble the HID's from luxurios cars lights. That bluey whitish look...lol?

Sam. The reason there's a nice tint on luxury cars isn't just the light bulb. it's that they have projectors. Projectors break the light because they act as a prism so at differnt angles u get white.. blueish white.. and purpleish white. Reflective housing with HID bulbs won't give u that look it isn't possible

I have 8000k with slim ballast; the center is white like the picture posted by HuyyNguyen from above, but the surrounding area of the light in front of the car has very little hint of ice blue (look at 10000k, but a lot lighter). As for when you look directly at the headlight, my 8000k looks like the low beam in the 8000k picture. If you want to go for that bluish look, I'll say go for the 10000k. You might loose a little bit of brightness (still a lot better than stock) and you might attract some unwanted attention from the cops though.

it doesn't matter about the car, it matters about the brand of the HIDs you are buying....whatever thousand k you buy it will be either exactly the same or very VERY similar to the pic i show
