Thinking about getting HIDs for my S13. I had them on my S14 and used the H4 bulb type for my regular driving lights. However the S13 only has the single bulb. Can anyone tell me which bulb type and where I can get a kit from?

Thanks

Sorry I cant answer your question, but I dont think there are any HID cars that use the same bulb for low and high beams.

The s13 headlamps use a dual filament H4 6054 headlight bulb. The H4 HID kits you commonly see on ebay usually use a D2S or D2R HID bulb rebased to fit the H4 socket. This essentially means that you lose your highbeams. I must say that most of the s13 HID kits I have seen don't really perform all that well. I think a nice set of Silverstars or a Hella headlamp upgrade would be much more cost effective. You should definitely consider that route.

Unfortunately the only way to have true H.I.D. is to retrofit OEM H.I.D. projectors into the pop-up assembly much like the way the clearcorners.com kit is configured. You see you just can't stick H.I.D. into a halogen H4 conversion lamp. The reflector is not designed for that type of light output and would ultimately blind on-coming drivers. To make matters worse I have yet to discover a sealed beam style or H4 conversion lamp that is specifically made for H.I.D. Thus leaving you with only one choice, OEM projectors that are designed to work with their OEM H.I.D. counterpart. Therefore you are left with a very costly, time-consuming, and delicate project on your hands. Your only way out for a relatively inexpensive and very cost effective aftermarket lighting solution is sealed beam Sylvania Silverstars.

Hit the nail right on the head there. Get the Silverstars, they're very good compared to stock, and if that's not enough get some kickass Raybrig or Piaa foglights.

if you have HID's why do you need high beams? Maybe its just me but I hardly ever use my high beams. Just retrofit the HID kit and be done with it.

I've asked about this in the past and i was told that HID gets far too hot to use anything like H4 HID in a sealed beam->H4 conversion housing. if you're good with wiring and a little fabrication you could try doing something like clear corners or just take your car to them.

my hid on flip light: http://www.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=63414

I have had hid on standard reflector housings (99 accord), projector housing (94 integra), and now flip reflectors (91 240sx).

It is true that with single beam (most common) hid it eliminate the high beam but who cares... you don't need high beam anyway with hid. If you really want hid and got the bling for it you can get dual beam setup, what it means is that the ballast and the hids are able to output different brightness but I personally think it's worthless so just get single beam setup.

The only thing you should concern yourself with is the housing, I think pdm sell bosch or hella housing that's either DOT or SAE approved for either 70 or 80 bucks.

It's a good thing to have.

Lol, So closed minded.

Don't worry about what I'm doing, lol.I'm actually right now taking care of a few more details before I'm worried about speed. As you said "...get some real suspension..", and a few other comments. I'm more focused on getting the car looking a little better. First the car is getting painted and the damn dents removed. Then when I get back from my cruise I'm getting the interior redone.....don't know if I want to keep the leather considering I won't have AC most likely to be able to deal with it during the TX summers. So who knows there.

But I'll keep you posted.
