Ive heard 90% of aftermarket HID kits come from china. They may say german engineering but dont be fooled. I was shown a site once where you buy them in wholesale and basically have 100's of boxes/ballast stickers, so people are fooled that their all different. their not. and their all junk.

i have a dual beam kit..hid for low and halogen for hi (its not high its just a regular halogen), ive had to replace 1 ballast, 1 bulb, and now a halogen bulb went out on me, im fed up and ready to go silverstar but i hear those burn out quick too. I love my hid's ive had them for a year and it feels almost worth it to keep replacing crap.

I agree with Qxxx4, majority of these kits are all from China. I had the same kit as Qxxx4 but that crapped out on me about a few weeks ago after about 2 years.

Just replaced the kit with a new hi/lo dual beam hid kit. The low beam is hid and the high beam is hid. I thought it was quite interesting to know that the actual bulb moves back and forth to give the low and high beam.

I bought mine locally, but this link explains the different HID options you have: http://www.vvme.com/page.html?chapter=1&id=35

I got mine at a place called OZ Motor Sports, located at: 18 Strathearn Avenue in Brampton the number is 416 574 5892. It cost $200 for the whole kit.

Not the light side of the bulb, but the rear of the light bulbs are a little bigger and you will have to play with the rainguard rubber over the bulb to have it fit nicely.

The entire kit comes with the bulbs, the ballasts, and a relay. You will need the ground the kit in 3 spots and connect a wire to the battery.

Qxxx4 If you wanna see the setup let me know and we can quickly meet up and you can check it out and if you want some help, I'll be glad to help out.

the other day i was towing a flat bed trailer with a car on it, and because of all the weight on the rear of the QX4, my 6000k HID's were pointing up into drivers faces, i had so many people beam me including the last one of the night was a cop facing me, he turned his spot lights on and shined me in the eyes as he drove by but did not pull me over. I would have done the same thing!

Man...I am so confused...I want to get a kit in a few weeks as one of my co workers said since he installed a 8000k (I think, he said its pretty blue) in his WRX, the output is soooo much better for driving and I HATE MY output, I always think my lights are off

But I am hearing about these issues now with these kits, plus the whole projector vs reflector housing debate thats been going on since the dawn of HID time.

I am not wanting something with a 12000 or even a 10000k but along the lines of maybe a 4300 to 6000 k, maybe 8000 max.

I know slickroger said that tinting the headlights will cut some of the output a bit, so I am considering this option. Sigh..decisions decisions decisions

Fueler, since you installed your 6000K, did you find much difference in visibility and output? I know in your thread with the pics, you said it was not what you expected but what about now, has your mind changed or do you think its a waste?

theres still glare, but i dont get flashed anymore, since the beam isnt pointing at people, you can see the cutoff in the road...

as for the output...its worth the hassle. really. Highway driving at night especially....all 3 lanes are lit up and i see a good 30ft ahead, when i switch back to halogens it feels like im blind

I would say more than 90% of hid kits are made in China these days as even philips makes oem hids in china now.

The most important part of buying HIDs now is quality and service. Trying to get warranty on the über cheap hids is worse than pulling teeth and you will have problems.

The glare with putting hids in halogens varies depending on light housing. On an SuV I would aim them down a bit and avoid anything obnoxious over 6000k. Even with the oem HIDs on my 01 qx4 I get flashed occasionally

Feel free to contact me if you're still interested in HIDs!

Eventually I'm going to convert my fogs to HID's. One of my buddies has recommended http://www.hidguy.net. They're in San Diego so that adds some level of comfort. I could always have Fueler and SixGuns drive over there and take one of the dudes out just to make a statement. I'll probably be ordering replacements for my low beams in the next few weeks from them.

Personally I'm not into anything over 6K. Anything beyond that reminds me of my old explorer with the crystal blue lights that were just GHEY. Damn that car was a piece of snit.

I got mine from http://www.xenondepot.com . They've been around for a while now. Mine is a bi-xenon 4300k kit. Very nice kit and pretty much plug and play. I'll try to take pics of it soon and post it. Very reputable seller at honda-tech.com.

I have 10000k HIDs... and to be honest, I don't recall being flashed since I installed them a few months ago. And yet, I was flashed often with stock halogen bulbs.

I think the reason is because of the 10000k bulbs. As most people know, the higher the kelvin rating, the less of it is visible to the human eye. So, while my HIDs are (really) bluish, they're not as intense as 4300k/5000k bulbs (which, all else being equal, is visibly brighter).

My headlights are aimed "down," but it's only according to most recommended instructions anyway.

While there have been a few times that I wished my headlights were visibly brighter, I find that it does get the job done.

hum... well, i took these with a camera phone... so they might not be very good indicators.

***I deleted the old post to add some stuff***

So apparently, one bulb of my HID kit is "bad"... though I wonder if its because I touched it (I think I did with my bare finger).

In any case, I ordered another HID kit, Xentec brand, but still 10000k. Hopefully, it'll be better, maybe a little brighter too, if it's better "quality". The reason I ordered a full kit was because just the Xentec bulbs were already $75... so $100 for the bulbs, ballasts and wiring sounded like it would be worth it to get Xentec branded ballasts too. I think this, both in case my current ballasts are flaky... and because I feel a little more comfortable with parts that should (theoretically) be the most compatible... as parts from the same company should be.

As for the current bad bulb. My best guess is that the metal salts aren't vaporizing fast enough. The bulb will get the initial high output blast, but when it switches over to continuous mode, it flickers. Before, I noticed that the bad bulb didn't stay on when I started the PF (I usually leave the switch on ON). But it didn't happen often, maybe twice in the first two months. But in the last two or three weeks, it's happened a LOT and on top of that, once it's on, the bulb has a chance of going out even after a few minutes of driving.

My only solution thus far... flip the lights on and off until the light seems consistent (each initial blast heats up the metal salts a little). After a while... the lights will work normally for the rest of the night. Of course the next day, I have to repeat the whole thing.

I read somewhere that flipping the lights on and off more than say 3 times in one hour is bad... so I expect my current kit to be in REALLY bad shape because of my "solution." Unfortunately, my job is doing deliveries... which means the lights will go ON and OFF more then 3 times an hour.

Im in the gta i bought 2 sets of hid's for $260 locally i have had 2 bad ballasts already but the guy i bought them from replaced them with no hassle.

i could never go back to halogen

Ive got 10000k on top and 3000k for the fogs they are awesome

If anyone is interested i can get more if you have ballast problems i can get you another one there the slim ballast kit. I recommend buying local simply because you are going to need replacements these parts seem to give out with any kit i buy so its great to know someone can just replace them for you.

Interesting... their DDM branded kits are $90 for the bixenon kits... but 65 for the Raptor branded bixenon kits.

I don't know if I would trust a $65 kit, but then again I don't know if I trust any HID kit.

DDM is NICO recomended, and judging by their website, i'd trust them. My first HID kit I used on my Infiniti J30 was from hid-extreme.com. It was very high quality, made in Japan

they're both bi-xenon... but as far as I can tell, the "DDM" brand is actually manufactured by a separate company, then DDM buys and and labels the product "DDM." Where as, according to their site, DDM partially OWNS the manufacturing plant that makes the Raptor brand.

Too be honest, I think the Xentec kit I ordered is probably less reliable than the DDM kit, but I can't shake the feeling of the DDM site being a little fishy to me. But if you trust them and they haven't done you wrong yet, that by all means, stick to them. Maybe, sometime in the future, I won't think they're fishy and I'll try them out... who knows.
