I see them all the time on all kinds of cars that weren't designed for them with strange cutoffs and lots of glare. Am I the only one who gets annoyed when they are coming down the road in the opposite direction from me? I mean, why would I want to install a cheapo kit that ended up being unsafe and annoying to other drivers?

I know I am in the vast minority here and it's why people pooh poohed the group retrofit buy as too expensive when they had a $100 solution, but as I look at my hybrid, I am thinking I'm either getting the stock HIDs off a regular altima, or get a projector retrofit.

I guess I'm just curious to see if anyone else feels the same. I'm not here to start a flame war, just interested in everyone else's take. Because as far as I can see, getting an aftermarket kit instead of a projector retrofit or the stock HIDs is really bad for others on the road.

You can adjust the height of the STOCK light output by twisting a little knob on the back of your enclosure... looks like a plastic gear. This also works if you install an HID kit...

Just worry about your own light output, theres always gonna be idiots on the road!

They do get annoying at times only when glare is so intense. The main problem is the HID bulbs that are being used. There are two type of HID bulbs: "R" and "S". An example are D2R and D2S, most common ones seen on cars. "R" stands for reflection, which is meant for reflector housings like the ones for our cars. The reflector type bulbs have a masking on them which blocks the light that produces that glare we see in reflector housings. Lastly "S" stands for shielded and is meant for projector type lenses. The most common type we see in aftermarket HID kits are rebased D2S bulbs and they do not come with the masking on the bulb, therefore the glare frenzy in every single reflector housing.

That's fair. Does anyone make D2R kits? Also, wouldn't the stock housing need a better cutoff even for those kits?

Thanks for the info!

Still most likely going to get stock HIDs or a projector retrofit

I don't believe any aftermarket HID company sells rebased D2R bulbs (D2R/D2S same fitment, just the difference is that U shaped masking). Here's a picture of my oem cut off. I just noticed you're from San Jose, man I miss home

I grew up in Sunnyvale and went to school in CA then came back. I'm thinking of trying to sell my place when things get a little better so I can move to sunnyvale, mountain view, or the city

I was not alive when halogen lights first came out, but I did read somewhere that people complained about the halogens when they first came out. I say suck it up and concentrate on the yellow and white lines and not the vehicle coming at you!
