Here we go again...HIDs in regular halogen projectors. Lets start off with the basics here guys. HID burns at a higher temperature. The projectors used in the OEM headlights are made for halogens bulbs which burn at a lower temperature. What do you think happens when you put a higher output temperature bulb into a sealed projector that was made to handle lower temperature... can you guess? It's not rocket science here people. What happens is the coating inside the projector burn and begin to peel / flake off and thus, over time, light output diminishes.
As for your debate on what bulb temp to use, it's bad enough you're going to do the above, but you'll add insult to injury by putting in a lower lumen output bulb. What I mean is, just because it says 6K or 8K doesn't mean that the light output (lumen) is greater. 5K is the optimal temperature range but if you're looking for a little blue tinge to the output, then go 6K...no higher. If you're looking for that cool rainbow "flicker" effect, the type you see on the higher end cars when they're driving towards you, then do it right and upgrade the projectors in the headlights.
Dangeris Lumenations can do all of those things mentioned!

Yeah I know..shameless plug
