hello everyone, I am new to this site, this is the first time i actually try to fix up a car. I have an 09 altima 2.5s and want to install HID, some sites and other discussions say i can plug n play, i already know about the ballast and how to install somewhat, but the other sites have said its illegal because it does not have the right housing. Can anyone give me info about the housing i need, where to buy, or if it will be ok to just install the HID with a simple replace the bulb?

Technically it will fail inspection because you have an HID bulb in a non-HID ballast. Most people just swap out the HIDs when inspection time comes around.

With Cali being so hard on cars for emissions and mods in general, you'll probably be pegged pretty quickly.

You can do it but you will most likely just anger other drivers. There is no legal penalties yet but im sure there will be soon.

*EDIT: Your reflector housing will cause alot of scattered light and bright glare for oncoming drivers. If you really wanna just try em TOPHIDS.com has em for 49.99 a kit shipped. See how bad (or good) they shine. If not just put your normal headlights back in.

What about projectors? I know they are pretty pricy, ijdmtoy.com sells a universal projects angel eyes headlight kit, the process seems pretty difficult, but for 140 I wouldn't mind buying it.

Here's the thing, the universal kit doesn't have h11 bulb they have 9006, does it matter? Won't the projector be the same size regardless the bulb?

If you're willing to do the work required or have someone help or do them for you that should be fine. Having projectors will give you a unique look since I don't think Altimas have them at all(stock). You'll also have a better beam pattern that doesn't blind other drivers but gives you better visibility down road. You have to have the same bulb type or it won't work. I dont know if anyone sells bulb adapters, i doubt they do. But I'll look around and post what i find.

Thanks!
I've also seen examples on the retrofit source, some used tsx d2s projectors, there are a lot on eBay, just type in tsx d2s, the thing is I'm not sure if they will be ok, they probably won't be as great in quality but as long as it has a nice cut off line. I went to Nissan to see the HID housings, 800 a piece so I am definitely not going down that road. I want the cheapest way possible and maybe have a pro help with the installation. From what I've seen cheapest might be around 500 but eBay has me thinking about the projectors they sell,
