Hey guys,

So I drive a 08 M35 Sport and have been wanting to get HID fog lights that match my headlights...is that even possible? What K do I shop for so they will match my stock HIDS? Also, what brands do you recommend? And are they just plug in play...? Thanks for your help in advance!

Your headlights are 4300K so that would be the temp to get. A lot of the people on here get 6000K or 8000K though..if you do a search you can find pictures of their setups. If you buy an hid kit, then it is in fact plug and play. People have been buying the kits from DDM Tuning.

Poor man's upgrade is to get Lumincs Ultra White bulbs they come damn near close to the factory HIDs, not as obvious a difference as the yellowish stock bulbs, cost $25. Been doing this in the last 4 cars I have had, Acura TLs and now my M37S). Did the same thinsg to the gf's new 2010 RDX last weekend as well.

I have installed these Xenon match bulbs. H11 is our fitment for M.

I have had no problems and like the look of them... short of being able to do a HID kit.

Don Blaze is right, stock is 4300K. Almost everyone has upgraded to 6000K including myself, but I switched back to the factory standard. Keep in mind the higher you go on the kelvin scale the less bright your lights will be. Higher kelvin = less lumens. I find it hilarious when I see idiots riding around with 12000K HIDs. Looks so damn stupid. This is an old pic when I had 6000k on the headlights and fogs:

....And I find it hilarious when I see a rows of hundreds of cars with dull yellow headlights and the one car sandwiched between them all with a beautiful aura of blue in their headlights.

Im having trouble finding H11 4300K HID kits (I prefer McCulloch).....im seeing mostly 5000K...will there be that much of a difference between a 4300K low beam with 5000K fog lights?

Not really, in fact, I would prefer 5000k because it has a little tiny bit more blue in it.

If it's a 55w kit, it will wash out the 5000k and make it closer to 4000k. 55w kits you should always get 1000k higher than what you're looking for.

Most HID kits are 35w.

Some of the newer high-end ones (DDM sells 55w and 35w) have a 55w strength. This = more lumen's, however it washed the light out. So, if you want a 6000k like appearance...but go with 55w, you should really be getting 7000k or 8000k.

The bulbs in the two HID kits are identical. The bulbs are all 35w. The only thing that is 55w is the ballast. Another piece of useful information is...do NOT run 55w HID kits in small spaces such as fog lights.

I only run 55w kits in the headlights/low beam.

My current setup:

6000k 55w H1 Low Beam Kit from DDM (looks closer to 5000k - a good mix of white with a hint of blue)
3000k 35w H11 Fog Light Kit from DDM
9005 Sylvania Xtravision Bulbs for the High Beam

Hi guys. REALLY old thread, but I am looking into changing out my factory fog lamp bulbs. I want more of a matching color to the low beams. (I still have factory Xenon) What are the differences between putting in an HID fog light vs. an LED fog light? Which do you recommend? I only ask because I went to your site (DDM) Ilya, and I could find H11 bulbs in the LED section. I also could not know where to look lol, because HID seems to be the way to go here.... Thanks

I ended up putting in the Morimoto LED units and really like them. I had tried just putting in H11 Led bulbs and wasn't overly impressed. The ones I bought were the Infiniti (Angled): Morimoto XB LED Fogs, and I found them cheaper through VLEDS. They were a direct replacement for the entire fog lamp unit.

Morimoto XB's aren't bad but I got two sets from TRS which could not be aimed (defective) so I gave up on them and went back to 3000k halogen fog lights strictly for looks.

So kmiles, you just plugged an LED light into where the fog light went? Are there no conversion type things that need to go in for LED fogs? Sorry if that's a dumb question... I know a lot about factory at lightning on almost any make, but not too much about DIY replacement when changing the type of bulb. I have replaced a fog light before when it burned out but kept factory halogens.

Most LED lights will plug right in as long as you get the right size. Some though, especially the higher wattage ones, will have 'heat sinks' or 'fans' on the back...so space may be limited on the passenger side due to the washer fluid reservoir.

Personally, unless you are going for the aforemention Morimoto XB fog lights (and can actually aim them), you're better off just throwing in whatever color halogen bulb you want to use (in my case yellow - 3000k) because the fog lights on these cars, IMO, are COMPLETELY useless. They don't do jack lol.

I agree that the are useless... (In my car at least) you can't have the fogs on unless the low beams are on. And, when the low beams are on, the light from them floods out the fog light. So, I basically just wanted to have them white just to make more of a match.

Problem with LED's is that most of the 'white' ones are 6000k while your OEM low beam is 4300k. You're probably better off going with an HID kit.

Yeah.. I definitely don't want the fogs to be MORE blue than my low beams lol, I like how the front end of your M56 looks with lights on though so maybe I'll keep them pretty yellow. Since again, I agree that they do nothing. (Unless I'm the only one that doesn't know the correct combo of the Lighting lever to turn on ONLY fogs)

No, you have to install a KP Technologies module (if I recall) to get independent fogs. I wish I could do it easily too, but on the Infiniti's the IPDM module is a PITA and makes it a lot harder. On my old Maxima, I just spliced ONE wire and had independent fogs via the light stalk.
