Ok, I haven't seen anyone cover this topic yet. so plenty of people have asked "can i put hid's into my high beams" and get flamed like mad. but what about the canadian counterparts? for canadian cars, we need to have daytime running lights, which in our altimas, is the same bulb as the high beam, just at a lower intensity. since the drl is on all the time, anytime you want to switch to your high beam it will already be warmed up, thus you're not really flipping the bulb on and off all the time, simply changing intensities.

so is this do'able with hid's? i'm not very knowledgable with hids, but i figure if you can have 2 different intensities with halogens, couldn't you do the same with a hid kit? or do you need some sort of bi-xenon setup? or is there a compatibility issue with the wiring required to do this kind of a setup??

around here i see people driving around with hid-looking drls, but i don't know if those are people just driving around with their headlights on or what the deal is. enlighten me folks!

one option would be the hoen bulbs that have an hid look,

http://www.hoen-usa.com/plus.htm

but im not sure if the bulbs are regular h9 for you guys.

as far as changing intensitys you would probally need a bi-xenon setup but imo the diffficulty in wiring would be more that what it is worth to get a good hid looking halogen bulb.

but i could be wrong... im getting the hoen bulbs for my hi-beams.

I would not suggest getting Hoen high performance hallogen (xenomatch plus), first they are 80w second you need to get heavy duty connectors, and even with the connectors I dunno I think you will blow fuses. grab their xenomatch h11 bulbs (fog lights), and you should be ok, they are stock 55w and look like HID's.

the hoen xenomatch plus bulbs are 65w same as factory for the h9 bulb type.

Which is what he needs to get sorry had a brain freeze for some reason I though the DRL's and High beams were H11's.

I just pulled the fuse on my DRL for my car. but I don't have a coupe so I'm not 100% sure that that is an option

I did the same thing. In the engine bay fuse box, it's the fuse near the top labeled "DTRL"
