Has anyone done the HID conversion on there qx4 i just bought a kit from a guy on ebay that my friend has bought over 20 kits from and he says they are really good kits i was just curious if anyone has boughten one of these kits and installed them and if they are really worth it. This kit has the low/high beam operation which i guess most of them does not. The output i choose was 8000k so it will have a bluer tint but not as bright as a 4300 or 6000. Tell me what you all think.. I just wish the lense on the qx4 was clear like the newer ones..

Not bad, I was about to say "Well you'll lose your hi-beam operation", but I forgot they have the hi/lo now.

I think it'll be good, as long as you aim them correctly -- also, I'm not sure how much glare the factory headlights will put off with that sort of bulb in there. A friend did this with a 99 SE-L Maxima, and there was a whole lot of glare (not much useful light on the road), but another friend did this on an 03 GTI and it works very well.

the best way is to use a projector like Acura TSX. Those $200 ebay kits cause extreme glare and unwanted police attention. ebay hid kit fitted to regular non-hid headlights: what hid is supposed to look like, so you dont blind people (projector retrofit, acura TSX is the best one)

Do you have high/low with your's Qxxx4? Any chance you could point out the HID package you may have gotten?

I just found out one of my headlights has a broken mount and may go the HID way...98 QX4.

Yeah ive got the High/Lo but to be honest...dont even bother. They sell them claiming to be "bi-xenon" but you have 1 xenon bulb for your HID and the other bulb, your "highbeam" is just a halogen and acts as a regular headlight to be honest. Slickroger drove with me in my q and said my HID's seem like my highs are on....they reflect off everything but arent really that hard on the eyes. yes their very bright but arent BLINDING to other drivers. Ive only been flashed highs back once because i was on an uphill street and they were pointing right at the car.

As for kits....their all roughly $100 ebay kits. 90% of them come from the same manufacturer. They just sell with different boxes and stickers on the ballasts. My kit was labelled "helleigkeit" and had a white porsche on it. Its "german design" but is totally from Hong Kong. When i got it one of my ballasts was defective and had to pay the seller shipping to send me a new one, since then ive had to upgrade my fuses from 15A to 20A and havent had any other problems...its been 4 months roughly. I love them! I cant go back to halogen lol

please note that my post earlier in this thread is a year old... since then i have had some more experience with these HID kits and honestly i can say they are not bad, it depends on the light they are going into.

i looked at several aftermarket HID kits when Qxxx4 installed his..... they do make a telescoping HID bulb that provides both HID high and HID low.... but its only one bulb. The shield actually moves back and forth (magnetic motor) to adjust the distribution of light from hi to lo. My buddy has the hi/lo telescoping HID kit in his land rover and it works GREAT its pretty slick how the light "moves" up or down in front of the car when you switch from hi to lo. Its something you would have to see in person to really see what im talking about.

The telescoping kits are usually about $30 to $50 more than low-beam only....so for someone who uses hi beams a lot it might be worth the extra dough....

I've been looking all over the forums, I can't find your installation how-to thread (unless i misread).

I'm probably going to get the conversion kit but I have no idea how it'll all go together...

Be VERY careful about just shoving a higher current fuse in there. The job of thefuse is to protect the wire and keep your truck from burning down. Modernvehicles use the smallest possible wire for the loads expected in order to keep weight and cost down. The fuses are sized appropriately. If you increasethe load, and have to increase the fuseing, you are over what the Nisan engineers expected, and you you are likely over what the wiringcan handle. It might not be a problem until you run the high beams on a hotday in Yuma, but I don't choose to take those chances.

I could have sworn i did a thread with detailed pics of the install. guess ill make a new one later on. As for the amperage...its only a 5A increase and these lights only use high current on startup. You make a good point but the wiring should, SHOULD be able to handle it. All hid upgrades need a higher fuse rating, the initial spark takes more current than a regular halogen, but much less current once its ignited

I have 98-99 pathfinder. It has 9004 bulbs. And it is the worst designed part of this car. I illuminates itself only. So i bought 9004 HID kit with halogen high bulbs on same bulb. When it is aligned lower than incandescent halogen bulbs, illuminates great. Even there is rain, it is ok. Its light color called 4300 kelvin(bright white). But.. If you turn on highs, halogens are completely put of focus point so still no high beams. Also when you flick, low turns of, so you need to use inverse relays and diodes to power lows when highs are on. Relays will get their trigger from corner lights.
