Wattup poeple.
I need some new HID's for my foggies. I purchased a kit off E-Bay (Xentec) and they SUCK !!!!. I Paid $37 for them and though how bad could they be. But after having to take them out and then put another ballas on 1 side (which went bad the next day), I have decided that I would like some official HIDs. For those who have done the conversion to HIDs, which brands do you use ? Please don't buy Xentec they are HORSE s*** !!!!

Tbh alot of people prefer the nokya ” 3000k” bulbs due to the bulb looking more yellow. But ddmtuning is a legit one many use. Shipping time varies between a couoe days to three weeks so dont be surprised.

Stick to the 35w kit for the fogs as the 55w kit may propuce to much heat in such a small area.

And please, for the love of Mary and Joseph, do not get anything higher than 6000k. Anything higher is just plain 'rice' and actually NOT helping you with visibility or output.

Lmao. Nah I would never do that. I was actually considering going either 3k, 5k, or 6k. I just need a good set.

Yea Ed no 55w for me. I was thinking about it in my lows, but I'll just leave those alone as well.

DDM might take a while to ship the stuff to you (I personally usually get it within a week or so and I'm on the other coast), but some people report 3 week waiting times.

Regardless, I have only used their HID products and would recommend them.

Next time though, I'm going to give "TheRetrofitSource" a try. I've used them for retrofit stuff before when I had my Maxima.

You are in Albany, I am in NYC. I don't think that the times would be touch different. But I am reading some stories of just what you spoke about. Taking longer than a month to get their products. I am also a fan of customer service. I don't like not having the ability to call and speak to a person. I would really love to purchase from them, but I am a little thrown off by my bad experience with the Xentec crap. I was actually considering ordering from aacstyle.com. They seem to be legit. They are a bit more expensive, but I don't mind if I get a working product.

Try TRS...and get their Morimoto products. That's what I plan to do soon.

One of my bulbs is on it's way out (I'm the kind of person who has their lights on even during the day and I do 30kmi a year so my lights get USED...A LOT) so I'm thinkin of changing out the entire setup.

That is the sillyest amount of scientific mumbo jumbo I've ever heard on a car forum. I skimmed through it and read select parts but wow...someone is an HID HATER (the writer).

My M didn't come with HID's.

I installed HID's but used a good color with good lumens (not some crazy 12000k purple color), close to the suns natural light and I can GUARANTEE I see more and further than I did with halogen lights.

Case closed. Also, I'm pretty sure all the automotive engineers in the world wouldn't be adopting HID's in their applications if it wasn't universally better than halogen.

Also, I have a feeling this writer was speaking about HID's in reflective housings, NOT projector housings (our car). In which, I DO agree with him that it's better to stay away from HID's. In a projector setup, the light is distributed differently and thus eliminates glare, etc.

------------

Cliff notes:

1) Do not install HID's in a non-projector based headlamp
2) If you do choose to install HID's...do not exceed 6000k bulb temperature. 4300k is the most natural light, and you should stick as close to this number as possible while also picking a color that you like or that looks good to you.

*** Update *** - So I am a stickler for stuff to be the way I want it. I hate having things that aren't what I want when I pay $$ for them. So I decided that I was going to go to a shop today and have them install some HIDs in my foggies for me. I am not the type that works on my own car. I just pay for it to get done.
I figured why not... If I went the route of ordering a kit online, I would risk it not working. But also, I would also I would then have to get them installed again. My boys do the install for me, but I would have to wait in their schedule. So I went to the autosports place that I go to and they did it for me. Cost me $160, but I have my lights, and I also know that if they blow, I can go back and they'll fix it for freeeeee. Nothing like accountability lol

When it comes to HID kits of ebay, you are risking money for unrated (unknown) products. At least that was situation in my case. I have been buying HID kits of ebay for past five years and always end up with some $hitty set. Last year I bought Sportiva HID kit of ebay for my other vehicle headlights and I am very happy with it. The output is great even during the rainy season. No problems since then whatsoever. I am planing to buy second set with slim ballasts for M45 fog's.

I agree with the post above. Higher that 6000K would just decrease your light output. I have used 8000K and could not see crap when it rained.

I hope that helps and here is the ebay link for Sportiva set.

Here is a write up that I did. Hope it helps!

hid-upgrade-to-6k-low-beam-fog-t471788.html#p5332897

Quick update to this post, I just last week had to replace a low beam and fog. I guess at about a year, no too bad. I do wish they had lasted a bit longer.

I agree with all that say 6k is perfect. It really has been. The output is great and the look is even better.

Good luck!

I got my HID's for fogs through DTM Tunning and they work awesome! I used thiis right up and with me using jacks stands o front end entire job was complet in about 2 1/2 hours. Just make sure on the DTM tunning lights you reveres polarity (reverse the way youu put on plugs to balast. I.E. when you hook your set up. If they dont work, filp the connection arounbd on Balast to Bulb and the will then work.

^^, the connections only go one way because they are AMP connectors. How did you manage to reverse polarity? It's a clip...fits like a puzzle.

Sorry for the newbie question, but is http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/DDM-H ... 35W-or-55W this kit all I need to upgrade my fogs?

If not, what else would I need and is this something that someone "should" be able to do themselves?

Thanks

Yes just be sure to get the 35W for fog lights... 55W will be to hot! :) Oh and the right Bulb Type.

Well if your replying to my post then apparently not if I just put that up :) They werent working on my 08 with the "It's a clip...fits like a puzzle." so I had to reverse them then I Zip Striped the to ensure good Water Tight Seal and make sure they stay in place...

You're losing light output with LED's...

LED's is the future, but it's just not there yet.

This puzzles me, to be honest. I'm kind of the HID guy around here and I have no idea what kind of kit you could possibly own that would allow you to change polarity.

I know of two types of connectors: AMP and D2S.

Here is a picture of the two:

Image

What kind of connection do you have?

Do you mean you reversed this connection?

Image

If so, there is a notch on the ballast itself which shows you where the clip is supposed to 'clip in'. There is no reversing of polarity needed. It only works 'one way'. You might have put it in the wrong way to begin with, which is why when you 'reversed it'...it worked.

See below image:

I'm making this post to try to help other members with the confusion (as I'm confused), not to attack you...so don't take any offense to this post please.

I thought of going the HID route when I bought the car but decided just to swap out the stock fog bulbs for these:
http://www.hoen-usa.com/fog.htm

I had them on for over 1yr and they are still going strong...I don't use my fogs often but they are ready when needed...only took maybe 15mins...I have an extra set in the garage if I need to replace...at the time I got two for price of one....
