HID Ballast & Bulbs

I have a '02 Q45 and the left ballast went, but in the process, and after reading this forum, i did some leg work and diagnosed the problem.When my dealer replaced the ballast for a nice spank, he changed the new bulb that i put in and went back to a nissan oem bulb for 319$. I am pissed about this.

Question: Will a different bulb cause the ballast to fail? I purchased some 8000K bulbs on ebay for a reasonable price.

Yes, if it draws too much current. 8000° K bulbs are actually dimmer as they have less lumens.

Dealer will always insist on running correct bulb or not guarantee the ballast. You were lucky.
