ok so I had HIDs and after 12 or 13 months they stopped working... put my stock bulbs in and never messed with it again. looked on ebay and found out that now you can buy ballast and bulbs separately really cheap.

so my question is, how do I find out if its my bulbs that burnt out or if it's my ballast?

if the bulb dosent want to turn on switch one of them to the other headlight and see if it turns on. if it dosent, then the light bulb is out. if it does, then its the black box that dont work (idk the name of it)

both sides don't work. tried switching them before but no luck... maybe I blew both bulbs? or maybe I blew both ballasts? I know with a regular light bulb theirs a little wire inside and if the wire is broken then the light bulb is burnt out but these light bulbs are different... is there any sound or anything I should hear from the ballast?

try to check your light bulbs and see if they look burnt from the inside. it should look like its fogged up inside. my hid light bulb went out just a month ago and it looked really foggy to the point where you cant look through it. ill try to put a pix up to show you how it looks like

when the bulb burns up the little ball inside of it fogs up. if its clear then its probably the ballast

thanks for the picture! mine looks like that but I wasnt sure if it was blown out since its been like that for a while (even when it was working). my brother has the same HIDs in his mustang so when it stops raining I'm going to mess around with his and see if my ballast is burnt out too

I'm going to be honest with you I think it's your bulb because it's really rare for a ballast to mess up.

WOW! I feel stupid. I was just about to test out my bulbs and ballast on my brothers car since he has HIDs also. and I just realized, I threw away my HIDs about a month ago lol FML! could have been $20 for HIDs but not I got to buy a whole kit. eh, its not that expensive but $20 still sounds better lol
