HICAS steering angle sensor (in steering wheel)

on 93 JDM rpS13 k's since the hicas model has steering angle sensors on the steering wheel, is it true that you cant change the hub out for a nardi or momo or anything? i read somewhere that it appears to be completely different and you have to leave the factory wheel, which somewhat hinders heel-toe since the factory steering wheel rubs against the knee. has anyone switched out the stock hicas equipped steering wheel for something else or have tips on modifying it to accept aftermarket steering wheel?

I know hkb makes a hicas specific hub. I saw one for sale on Z ilvia or fa for about 40 bucks
